Air Force One Cockpit

Tue Sep 02, 2008 2:00 am

We all know that Air force one has many systems that can barely let it be considered a classic 747....but on what concerns the cockpit its self and all it's systems, is it equipped with some normal 742 cockpit systems or was it updated to a modern glass cockpit, with avionic systems such as lnav and vnav ?

Children should only be allowed on aircraft if 1. Muzzled and heavily sedated 2. Go as freight

It was shown on TV last week. It is a regular three man, 742 classic flight deck.

There are some stuff that couldn't be shown, but it looks like any other flightdeck on a 742. I will say, it is black and white (black panels and controls with a whitish gray ceiling) inside.

Nothing too special.

Here's a link to the show that was on the History Channel here in the US. you can buy it on DVD and I might add, it was really cool!!

It appeared to have updated LCD monitors for the vast amount of crew members up on the deck. Maybe that is the "upgrade" that has been mentioned numerous times. I think it is a three-man cockpit..... but there is also a navigation officer....and the communication crew.... So I would say it is more like a 4-person flight deck. That is just my observation. Amazing nontheless.

Not hardly. There is very little secret on the flight deck of the VC-25. There have been several threads on this subject with several photos.

Exactly right. There is nothing to really hide on the flightdeck that you can't see on a typical later build 747-200 flightdeck already. It takes three men to fly and three men to land. Nothing special. It's what's BEHIND and BELOW the cockpit door that is a bit more sensitive.

And above if you saw the History Channel show on Air Force One. This thing looks like a porcupine with all the antennas!
