SpaceX Falcon 1 Flight 4 Launch Thread

Thu Sep 25, 2008 4:14 am

They're at it again... after the unsuccessful Flight 3, which suffered a stage separation malfunction, Falcon 1 Flight 4 is on the pad and has already performed a static fire. This test flight (no revenue payload) is currently expected to lift off sometime between 28 September and 01 October.

The latest: http://www.spacex.com/updates.php

Here is the Flight 3 thread, with discussion about the latest failure:
http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/military/read.main/94069/

It's make or break time for SpaceX, since their credibility for more ambitious endeavors (Falcon 9, Dragon, etc.) is riding on a successful Flight 4. Good luck to them!  pray

Dang. There goes their perfect record.
Way to go Elon. Looking forward to booking my Dragon flight on Orbitz.
I'm betting they won't have too much trouble finding customers who will take the risk for 75% off the Pegasus price.

It does make you wonder how Pegasus or Vega will manage to stay in business.

I know that Elon's biggest advantage was having a few hundred million to throw into the project without having to worry about ROI. I guess we'll have to wait a few years for realistic look at cash flow and profit and all that mundane stuff.
If they can really churn out Merlins for a couple million each we just might see the beginning of the launch business the way it should be.
And, if the guys figuring things like stage seperation delays don't fall asleep during Rocketry-101 again.

I believe that the correct brag is first privately developed, liquid fueled launch vehicle to orbit.

Congratulations to the SpaceX team. Now, I want to know when the tourist vehicle will be ready!  Wink

The Falcon 9 is scheduled to make its first flight next year, That's the rocket that could, possibly, eventually carry humans.

highfive  way to go SpaceX ! This is the biggest space story of the year, in my opinion.

checkmark  It's a business with extremely high barriers to entry... now that they're in, their only competition is going to be the Big Boys. The latter cannot move or reorganize on a dime. It remains to be seen whether SpaceX can consistently undercut them. Whatever happens, it will be extremely healthy for this industry.

That'll be news to OSC. They're launching a Pegasus next month.  wave

Congratulations to SpaceX on the successful flight of the fourth Falcon 1 rocket.

Let's get Flight 5 up and the premier of Falcon 9 now.

And after that...Dragon!
