Interesting. Have recently read several books by people intimately involved in the Blackbird program, I wonder which of the pilots this is. One odd thing, tho. He states that his RSO is a Marine Major (Walt) but as far as I can tell, all crew members on actual AF missions were AF officers.

Read "Blackbird Rising" & "SR-71 Blackbird: Stories, Tales and Legends".

There are also several websites by people that were involved in the program.

A neighbour and close friend of mine was stationed in Bodø, Norway, flying F and CF-104Gs in the 70s and 80s and has told some good stories after a few beers (you know old fighterpilots...)

This is an episode he was involved in... http://www.wvi.com/~sr71webmaster/bodo.html

A good read

I think the SR-71 tribute might be a compilation of several different Blackbird stories. From the timeline in "SR-71 Blackbird: Stories, Tales and Legends" comes this timeline that doesn't quite match what is in the tribute:

15 Apr 1986 SR-71A #980 performs postbombing damage assessment flights of Libya in
support of Operation Eldorado Canyone; USAF Pilot Jerry Glasser/RSO Blair
Bozek.

The RSO's name doesn't match what is stated in the tribute.

Still a great tribute to a great a/c.
