Correction: Florida Today is now saying next Tuesday.

No. It usually depends on the weather.

I was in hopes there would be a stop here in Kansas City as there was back in the 80's with the shuttle!! Big grin

(Disclaimer: I do realize the previous stop was with the Enterprise and was on a tour, not an actual space faring vehicle)

Damn, they couldn't have done that when I was in UPT at Columbus, could they! Of course, that was 1984, and the program was a little different back then.

By the time I remembered the flight was today and checked flightaware, the C17 was already passed. I'm just glad I saw it at all, about 4 or 5 more minutes and I'd have missed it altogether.

They are landing in Fort Bliss about now.

Edit: And to be totally honest, I'm a little paranoid that I may have seen the C17 and assumed it was the 747. From that distance it with the sun also to the south, it was just a dark shape, Since I did not know there was a C17, I may have seen that since we can only guess the flightuaware delay time. I think it was the ferry flight, but...

Maybe...but there are some storms just to the east of where they took off from. Trust me... it's nasty here...maybe 38degs...raining and blowing cold winds...

They could be doing a flyby at EFD before proceeding to BAD, or maybe even landing at EFD. With the program ending in 2010, this might be the last time they have an opportunity to do either. HOU and BAD weather is showing clear skies, so the could do either EFD or BAD.

He's decending as he approches HOU..so yea its a good guess... but there is also a big storm line running from the gulf all the way up to New England.

I just spoke with my sister-in-law who lives in Rosharon (about halfway between HOU and LBX), and she took her cordless out on the driveway. She saw the thing make the left turn from its SE heading to line up with the runway at EFD. Looked great, she said...

With all the operational restrictions they have and the slow moving nature of that storm system, it wouldn't surprise me if they sat in BAD for at least a couple of days...

STS-126 Mission Updatehttp://www.nasa.gov/shuttle en-us The Shuttle Carrier Aircraft took off from Ft. Worth at 12:08 p.m. EST and is expected to arrive at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana around 2 p.m. and remain there until Friday.

An advancing cold front moving in on Kennedy, preceded by high winds and storms will not allow a smooth flight and landing for the dynamic duo today.

The crosswinds at Kennedy are forecasted to subside and the carrier aircraft with Endeavour perched on top is scheduled to arrive at Kennedy's Shuttle Landing Facility no earlier than 2 p.m. Friday.]]> Thu, 11 Dec 2008 17:32:20 GMT

I saw it come in about 1425 to the KSC area. I work at KMLB and was waitng for our next flight to land and off behind the RJ-700 was a big airplane that looked pretty strange at first then when it got closer I could see the shuttle sitting on top and that was a pretty cool site. I only wish I had my cam for that.

Just one question though since NASA has N/S runways as well as KMCO if the crosswinds were to pick up and they could not land there would KMLB be the next choice due to our size runways and we have E/W runways and our main one over 10,000ft?

- Is this 741 still owned by AA or is it USAF or NASA aircraft?

- How many 741 (like this one) are there out there at EDW?

- I'm still surprised it could not go farther, or maybe it can but sat down in Louisiana because of weather (or was that a planned stop?).

NASA.

Two. One ex-AA (N905NA) and the other ex-JAL (N911NA)
