Wreckage Found, Likely 50s Chile/Argentina Air Frc

Fri Mar 20, 2009 6:34 pm

Aircraft wreckage and bones found in Tierra del Fuego. It may be Chilean or Argentinian Air Force aircraft from the 1950s.

This is quite an interesting and of course sad story. Thanks for sharing and please keep us updated if you hear any more on this.

I'm always fascinated by these discoveries..may be one day they'll find the wreckage of Amelia Erhart's Electra..

One of my favorites is the 'Lady Be Good' B-24 which crashed in the Libyan desert and was found some 16 years later.

Wow, great discovery. Reminds me of the Stardust airplane that went missing in the Andes back in 1946, only to be found in 1999 at the base of a glacier.

Hmm - I hadn't heard of the Stardust, but just looked it up on Wikipedia - interesting!

As for Erhart's plane, I'm thinking that'll take a submarine, but it'll be found one day...

If you click on the link in the OP's post, it will bring up the news article and at the top is a slide program for viewing 10 pics.

Between the prop and the tire (better pic on the blog) it sure looks like a potential lancaster.
