hmmmm, old C-130E's. Is there any plan in the future to get newer transports? Or are these it?

Not saying the C-130E's are inadequate, it just seems like Poland might be getting old ones before some new builds. The idea of getting old F-16A/B's was floated around for before the arrival of the C/D's.

I dunno....this seems to be a big improvement in capability over the AN-26's and the C-295's or even the Bryza, used or not.  Confused

It sure beats the C-130Bs that Rolmania got back in the 90's. I guess the USAF can't part with their H models with the current op tempos.

OK, according to defense-aerospace.com, the C-130's are :

"...scheduled to be operated 600 flight hours a year within the period of 20 years"

And:

"This is a milestone for our air defense," Polish General Mikutel stated. He noted that the plane is able to carry 17 tons of equipment or 90 equipped soldiers, “which is why the plane will leave [our current] CASA planes behind.”

Aren't the 295's replacements for the -26's?

It's certainly a major growth in capacity, can't argue with that.

If the C-130E's are updated to a C-130X which used to be the plan for all USAF E's and H's plus having structures repaired it will soldier on for years.
I would help you but it is not in the contract

The question should be: is it cost worthy? Does pumping money into an old airframe makes sense when you can get a brand new airframe for not that much more?

If it came from Foreign Military Sales FMS program they got it for pennies on the dollar.

Poland's 5 C-130s are going through a modernization process in Waco, Texas by L3 Communications. Their wing boxes are being replaced with donated parts of other aircraft. The airframes are being donated from the US to Poland and the entire transaction is done under a FMS guaranteed loan. The US gives Poland money to buy the C-130s, update them and bring them to Europe.

Which is nice since Poland has turned into a very reliable NATO partner, great to have a ally who has his own airlift and will be where he says he is going to be in a contingency. An-124 operators are probably not too happy about it. Before USAF budgets problems the E's were slated to get this done and give them commonality with the super H's.

That doesn't sound like a lot of use.
