|Quoting STT757 (Reply 14):|
I believe the 4 C-9s are to be replaced with 3 C-40s, and the C-130Ts are not tankers.
Subject to funding. Before I left the Navy last year, the next squadron to get the C-40 was VR
-56 at NAS
Oceana and they hadn't recieved any at that time. And VR
Whidbey) was next after them starting in 2014, as per the funding schedule. VR
-52 will most likely be the last C-9 unit to transition if they don't dissolve them into VR
-64(C-130) which is a possiblilty. With the Democrats in control of governement, I see the C-9 community definately targeted for realignment cuts or be dissolved altogether. The C-130T's are not tankers, that is correct, but they are able to be converted rather easily should they be needed to moved over to the USMC
and convert to KC
-130's. There was talk about a year ago that the Navy Reserve possibly might join the USMC
in the aerial-tanker role, but since I left the VR
community, i'm out of the loop now.
