SU-47 Berkut Outside Russia?

Fri Oct 02, 2009 10:24 pm

Hi, there!

A collegue told me, he had seen this bird. But, he said, he had seen it in France.
Was it ever on display outside Russia?

And, do you think, or know, if this fighter will ever go into production? I would love to see it fly!

I can't answer the question about whether it's been seen outside of Russia, but the airplane doesn't seem to be much more than a technology demonstrator at this point. Based on present impressions, it doesn't appear the airplane will go into production. It might be Russia just can't come up with the money to put it into production, but that's speculation on my part.
Dare to dream; dream big!

Quoting EBJ1248650 (Reply 1):

From the beginning it was designed as a technology demonstrator, nothing more and nothing less.

The Sukhoi PAK-FA is intended as Russia's next generetion fighter. Details are sketchy, but assembly of the first prototypes seems to be at an advanced stage.

I believe it is complete or almost finished in any case. There was a "show" that was put on for Putin and a small group of high-ranked officials this summer. Either Russia is doing a really good job of keeping it's appearance secret, or it's all a bluff.

That's right. First flight is supposed to be this year:

"The newly unveiled unit is intended for integration with Sukhoi's heavyweight fighter prototype, which air force commander Aleksandr Zelin says is due to fly in November or December. The aircraft was shown to President Vladimir Putin in its assembly phase during his May visit to the KnAAPO production plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur."

He's the Prime Minister and not the President, terrible reporting.

Any significance to the AESA radar dish in the article being oval instead of the normal circular?

No. Like the American/German F-31 it as built purposly for beng a test bed only for the Russian Pak-Fa fighter and future fighters.
