San Francisco Fleet Week

Thu Oct 08, 2009 5:41 am

Does anyone know when the Blue Angels will be arriving in the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend for Fleet Week? Will they be staging at SFO? Any details are appreciated about the logistics behind this amazing event.

They arrived on tuesday into SFO. I thought they would have used Moffat Field.

They arrived in formation on Tuesday. They have been using SFO in recent years, Pretty cool sight to see!

Otherwise, weather permitting they will be practicing for up to a few hours on Thursday and Friday, regular show around 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Years past I would go watch the practice, which was usually better than the real show!

Twenty years ago this month I was on the USS Independence for fleet week in San Fran. Man am I getting old. Anyway I had the best seat in the house for the Blue Angels demo.
Never take financial advice from co-workers.

- When FA-18s land on land runways, do they land 2X2X2 (two at a time) or do they land one at a time?

They do a formation fly-by above the runway, break up and file a single line while heading downwind, base, final and landing. It has always been this way for the past years at SFO.

- I have seen U.S. Air Force F-15s do that at IND (after doing fly-bys at IMS) in the past but I was not sure about U.S.N. at SFO.
