Military Activity - Avalon Google Earth

Wed Dec 09, 2009 1:48 am

Recent views on Google Earth on Airports in Melbourne, Victoria Australia has what looks to be a KC-10 Tanker and a pair of F/A-18's.

One would assume to classify all as US assets, but as i am not aware of the date of Google Earth pass and the clarity of the scan is not great, it is kid of hard to make out.

Anyone with any information on this one? I would love to know.

Goggle Earth search was done to today, 12:30 ESDT in Australia.

Cheers

The image is from March 19, 2009.

Other than that, I can't help.

The Australian Airshow was held until the 15th March 2009, so it may be possible that these guys were stragglers that were yet to leave.

Would love to know if this was true....

Any others?

PS Thanks Evomutant.

Cheers

It is often difficult to determine exactly when a google earth picture was taken, but you can find out the date, the time of day is often diffiucult.

But you can see military assets in a lot of places.

If you pull up Guam, you can see B-1s, B-2s, C-17s, F/A-18s and KC-135s on Anderson AFB. If you pull up Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in New Hampshire you can see USN LA class SSNs and a Ohio class SSBN being refit there., go across town to Pease ANGB and you see KC-135s there.

I found the USS Ronald Reagan CVN and her task force at sea in the Pacific Ocean once.

You can also see military aircraft and ships in Iran, China, Russia, and just about every other country.

Thanks for that Top Boom, Google Earth is not one of my "to go" places on the web but gave it a little drive yesterday.

But I guess I am more focused on the assets themselves at Avalon in Australia and the occassion of the visit. I dod remember reading an article in the magazine Australian Aviation of one of the journo's getting a spin in the Super Hornet. I thought that these would be the US planes associated with that story and indeed the displays for the Australian Airshow in Jan 09.

I thank you for your response and welcome any others.

Cheers
