Blue Angel 7: At SFO

Thu Jan 07, 2010 11:25 pm

Anyone know why Angel #7 arrived at SFO yesterday around 200pm? It proceeded to Signature Aviation FOB and stayed at least 2 hours, but appeared was going to spend the night.

Most likely a planning trip for the 2010 air show season. We had them come into FRG last month for meetings with local airport & airshow planners, as 2010 is the Blues' turn to fly the Jones Beach Air Show.

Aren't there two # 7's?

When they were at SFO in 2009 there were 8 Blue Angels planes (not including Fat Albert). If I recall right, two of them bore the # 7.

Can someone confirm or refute this?

Thanks.

There are 8 F-18's that show up for an airshow, one with the Narrator and one with the Events Coordinator (PR guy too?). Usually they are ship #7 and #8 but the Blues have several F-18's besides the original 8 that are used for spares and such and so if #8 happened to be down another #7 may be used. I've been to their home base in Pensacola, FL long ago and was lucky enough to talk them into letting me grab some photos on the tarmac (with an escort of course). There were F-18's with no numbers, at least one still partially in regular Navy grey paint, ones with duplicate numbers, etc. Hope that helps.

As for the SFO visit in 2009, you are absolutely right:

One of my contacts on Flickr caught the recent visitor to SFO:
