Makes that VH-71 cancellation decision less and less like the most frugal decision....

AgustaWestland today announced that a contract has been signed by the Government of India for the acquisition of twelve AW101 helicopters that will perform government transport duties. The contract, valued at around € 560 million($764 million), includes an extensive five year logistic support service and initial aircrew and technician training.

It was not the basic airframe that was the problem, it was all modified requirements the government was ramming into the thing. The AW101 is similar to the VH-71 pretty much in shape only.

Not going through too soon

The central vigilance directorate (India's anti corruption police) is probing this deal for alleged malfeasance after complaints by some ruling party MP's who were backing the NH-90. It will ultimately go through because the CVD usually finds no evidence .... but it will take a year or so.
