Riat 2010: Who's Going?

Tue Jun 01, 2010 9:57 pm

It's only a month and 2 weeks away so I thought we could see who'll be attending and make one of those list things. I'll be there on Saturday and I might pop over to Gate 13 on Sunday to see what's what.

Hello,

I'll be going. I have a ticket for either day, so which I go on depends on the weather.

Best regards,

Jim

So out of the thousand or so people here, three are going to Europe's largest military air show. Oh well. And if anybody wants to beat the queues then park your car in Cricklade and jump on your bike. It's a 25 minute easy ride and means you don't have to sit in a stationary car bored for an hour or two.

If you get there early enough, there's no issue with car queues.

Just found out that the Boss has bought tickets for Saturday!!!

Total shock because I was under the impression he had abandoned the idea of going. Then I realised he was at Goodwood over the weekend (Festival of Speed) and the Vulcan did a low fly-by. He has got withdrawal symptoms of hearing the beast flying. Good news all round.
I'm lucky my job is my hobby

Hopefully this will work. Here is the route I cycle, beats the traffic jams and means you don't have to get up at 6 in the morning to get a good seat at the air tattoo. The first section through Cricklade is easy, you follow signposts to Cirencester/A419, once out of Cricklade you will pass a few houses on the right. Just after these there are two metal bollards on a path. Follow this path alongside the A419. It will then go up onto the bridge where you will join all the lemons who are sat in their big metal tubs. From now on you cycle past all these peeps, usually on the wrong side of the rode, making sure you don't get splattered by the double decker buses coming in the opposite direction. You turn off after about 20 minutes signposted Marston Meysey. Pedal through the village and wahey, cycle straight up to the fence and you're their. 25 minutes of fun. It's the final photo which shows the route.

Don't think the queues will be too bad this year. Apparently there are only 4 A.netters going

Weather looks like it will be ok-ish for the weekend, though I never trust the forecasts until the night before and even then......

Best regards,

Jim

Sadly my personal economy is no longer what it used to be. I chose to go to Farnborough on the first two trade days to see the B-787. I could not go to Goodwood for the Festival of Speed and will not be able to attend RIAT.

I hope you all get us some great pictures. Enjoy your time at RIAT.
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

I know what you mean - after being on short time at work for a year, I had to think hard about whether I could justify airshow visits. Fortunately, I don't spend a lot of money anyway, and only go shooting 7 or 8 times a year anywhere, so I can still afford do my local shows. I'm lucky enough to have Cosford, Kemble and Fairford within an hours drive, keeping petrol costs down. I'd like to travel further, Waddington, Duxford and Farnborough are on my list, but finances do not allow, sadly.

Best regards,

Jim

FYI the weather here is sunny with the odd heavy shower, reasonably strong winds and a reasonable amount of cloud cover. I'm going to cycle over today and see what's what.
