Nellis AFB Tourist Info

Tue Jul 27, 2010 8:38 am

Hi guys,
Ive tried to look this info up on the web/forums, but without luck.
This September I am planning to visit LAS, so I was wondering if there is anything special to see at Nellis AFB for a tourist. Is there a lot of activity? What can I expect?

Thanks!
Schreiner

I don't think there are any public tours on Nellis.

But is there any regular activities going on? Is there 1 flight per hour, of can I expect lots of traffic?

Quoting Schreiner (Reply 2):

Like most all military bases in his country they are closed to the general public. You can't just drive on the base and go site seeing.

From the roads outside the base, you can see most flying activity.

Every time that I have driven through Vegas to/from school, I have seen quite a bit of traffic going by, and that was just from the highway! I never once stopped, but always saw something. Most recently back at the beginning of June I saw a ton of flights of F-15s and a few flights of F-16s coming in. Also some C-130 action too. It's a very busy base relative to other bases, since it is such a huge training facility, and not just for the USAF. I'd say you have a fair chance of seeing some action by just being in the vicinity.
