James May Flies With A U2

Sun Aug 01, 2010 9:50 am

Don't know whether or not this has been posted before but I just received a link to a breathtaking video.

James May got a ride in a U2 all the way up to 70.000ft.
Awesome footage.

This program was shown first on the BBC last year, as part of the extensive programming celebrating 40 years since Apollo 11.
James May flew on the U-2 since along with the need to wear a pressure suit - the early U-2's also in effect prototyped the operational spacesuits which the Mercury program used, as well as being the only way to get the nearest to space without riding a rocket.

Of course, once he might have gone up in a twin seater SR-71.
So not only the Space Program which cannot do what was possible 40 years ago.

Though it was a good program, nothing revelatory for enthusiasts, made up by being entertaining.

May has also been in the rear seat of the Harrier T.10 and Typhoon T.2, lucky man.
