When Did The Blue Angels Get F/A-18Cs?

Mon Sep 06, 2010 2:50 am

I was just looking through the collection of F/A-18C photos here at a.net and noticed at least three of them featured Blue Angels C model Hornets. I had heard the team was going to transition to this model but wasn't aware they had completed the change over. When did that happen?

The Blue Angles have been flying the F/A-18C/D models for at least 3 years now. Before going to the C/D models, they flew the F/A-18A/B models that were the pre-production aircraft. Each airframe was unique.

The Blue Angels got there first 'C' model late last year, but as far as I know did not fly a public show untill this year. They are flying a mix of A, B, C, and D models this season. Most of the prepoduction A, and B models were replaced by regular models later on.

I was under the impression the Blue's first F/A-18s were "pilot production" models. Are they now being referred to as pre-production machines?

I thought they were called pre-production aircraft, but you could be correct.
