Mind-Numbing Buccaneer Low-Level Fly-By

Wed Sep 15, 2010 4:23 pm

This seems to be for real though I would much appreciate someone confirming the reality of this pass: at 00:30 in the following video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Btdi8qNutw

a Buccaneer performs a high-speed low-level fly-by between what seems to be an aircraft hanger and another building (from which the fly-by is filmed). It looks like the aircraft is at around 20 feet maximum during this pass; the cameraman actually films it from above when it is passing between the two buildings. The distance between the buildings is perhaps not more than 100 feet.

Thoroughly amazing stuff from absolutely staggering aircraft!! Seems that the Buccaneer was exceptionally stable at low-level...

Looks real to me and the sort of below-the rooftops flying it was designed for.

Superb book.

The buccaneer was a fabulous low level platform, and would routinely fly as low as in that video (though usually over water).

Great Aircraft.

I have often wondered how vulnerable you are at that height, not to SAM but AAA/AK47/RPG.

You only need to lose focus for a couple of seconds....

Or sneeze.

I believe the autopilot was sufficiently trustworthy to maintain height that a pilot could occasionally take hands off if necessary.
