Blue Angel And Thunderbird 2011 Schedules

Tue Dec 07, 2010 9:42 pm

The Blue Angels and Thunderbirds have announced their 2011 schedules.

Last year the Blues announced 2010/2011, saying they wanted to give promoters more time to plan. This time, I was expecting 2011/2012, but this only includes 2011:

http://indytransponder.blogspot.com/...usn-blue-angels-2011-schedule.html

Comparing to what is on their website (which I believe hasn't been updated since the original announcment a year ago) there are TBAs where LaCrosse, WI and Kallispell, MT previously were listed.

The Thunderbirds:

The 'birds schedule confirms that the Milwaukee Lakefront show will be on August 6th and 7th. I hope to be working on the grounds again this coming year!

Well would you look at that - they're coming to Seattle the first weekend of August

This past summer I took my boat out to watch the Blue Angels Thursday practice over Lake Washington. It was fantastic. We got multiple waves from pilots and a few did nose dives (nothing anywhere close) towards our boat, not to mention the low passes. If anyone gets the opportunity to watch the blues on a boat - do it!

Unless I missed a year, Edwards AFB has not had the Thunderbirds in MANY years.

Upstate doesn't count...

We got screwed on Long Island - the Tbirds and Blues alternate years at the big Jones Beach Air Show, and 2011 is the Tbirds turn, except they leave for Europe that week instead. My tax dollars well spent.

Good point. The teams are appearing within 90 miles of each other on different dates in Rochester and Niagara Falls, but it looks like the closest either gets to NYC is Milville, NJ (Blues on Memorial Day weekend).

I'm already making plans to go to Andrews.....seeing both teams at the same airshow is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Where is Cicago, IL?...

Wow, wings over Houston will not see either this year, bummer. I should be able to make the Jesolo show.
Fort Worth does see both this year. I might see one of those. I wonder if the Canadians will come to Houston next October.

Very-Very strange to see NAS Brunswick on the schedule in August. The runways and tower closed last year.. and by that time the base will be be fully shut down.

They show June for Rhode Island, the dates look about right compared to last year. Thunder Birds last year, Blue Angels in 2011.

The official websites now show the 2011 schedules:

http://thunderbirds.airforce.com/schedule.html

http://www.blueangels.navy.mil/schedules.htm

There are no TBAs on the Blue Angel website, so perhaps the La Crosse and Kallispell shows are firmly on the schedule after all.

My point being how do they have a show at a base that is closed... on runways that are not maintained.... and a tower that is closed..?

The same way they do many of the waterfront shows.. operate from an airfield that is open. The venue does not need to be an active airfield...

It's not like the airport is going to be abandoned a la South Weymouth. Part of the airshow will be marketing the former NAS Brunswick as a centerpiece for business aviation.

Well that's cool. I guess I need to have my Mom keep me up on what's going at NAS Brunswick. I grew up under the south approach and just loved Maine. I'd go back in a heart beat if I could live the same lifestyle as I am now.
