FJ4 Runs Off Runway At Oshkosh Too! Video Inside

Fri Jul 29, 2011 11:30 pm

I can't believe lightning struck twice! Hours after the F-16 overran the runway at Oshkosh an FJ4, same runway same tailwind did the same thing. Unbelievable. Fortunately both pilots are okay.

And a better one of the F-16 just hours before.

Glad the pilots okay, how about the plane? Did he manage to keep it from lawn-darting like the F-16?

Considering it left Oshkosh today and flew to STC, probably not too bad.  http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N400FS

But this is like student pilot 101 - if you float down the runway longer than you should, you add power and go-around. Especially at an airshow, give the folks a show for goodness sakes and power up, come back around and do it again.

Seriously, what do you think is more embarrassing - a go around or running off the runway like that F-16 pilot? Maybe this F4J can take back to the air, but the taxpayer is going to have to spend a lot of money to get that F-16 back into mission shape. This is just so unnecessary, there is just no excuse for stuff like this in aviation.

That's the odd thing though; I can't say for the F-16, but the Fury didn't float. He touched down WELL down field, he just had way too much speed. It didn't look like he had any braking at all because that speed is basically the same as when he passed us south of show-center.

What went on, I'd like to hear.
