Government VIP Aircraft At HNL For Apec

Mon Nov 07, 2011 12:02 am

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders' summit will be held this week in Honolulu, and I'm wondering what sort of planes will be flown in for the occasion. I figure the USAF Air Force One (VC-25) and the JASDF Air Force One will be in town, plus a whole bunch of other VIP aircraft that aren't often in the US, never mind HNL.

Isn't this the meeting where all the PAC-RIM leaders dress up in a weird group fashion statement? What will they all wear in Hawaii? Grass skirts and flowerly hawaiian shirts?

Since the recent G-20 meeting was a failure, I expect APEC to be one, too.

But, I agree, their airplanes would be much more interesting than the "leaders" themselves, no matter how they dress. My guess the airplanes will park on the HIK side of the duel use airport.

When APEX was in SYD a few years ago, the highlight was the Chile Air Force 707, not sure if it is even still operating.
Don't forget the Russians come to, so you should get an IL96 as well as a couple of 62's. Probably the Malaysian BBJ, whatever Thailand has that isn't swimming in BKK and don't forget the Sultan of Brunei.
It was a good period for spotting in SYD I can assure you.

Unfortunately not anymore, but we still have the Condor (AWACS conversion of the 707) and a couple of KC-135Es flying, so we hopefully are going to have a few more "smokey" years ahead  .

The Chilean president should fly over with the Chilean Air Force 767.

Cheers,
Andres

Not one of the big boys, but an HMX-1 VH-60 arrived via C-17 at the former NAS Barbers Point.

Looks like most of the VIPs are arriving tonight. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser has a grainy shot of Stephen Harper's CC-150.
