RAF Tri-Star At LGW This Afternoon

Fri Jan 06, 2012 9:24 pm

I heard that an RAF Tri-Star C2A ZE706 (1177 ex N503PA) was at Gatwick this afternoon and it even performed a go-around. It came from RAF Akrotiri and after leaving LGW headed to RAF Brize Norton.

I would have loved to have seen this bird today, especially seeing it perform a go-around.

I would be nice to see a L-1011 Tristar in action.

Yes same here! I'd love to hear the noise of the aircraft on takeoff, the louder the better!

Must have been a great sight.

I saw ZD948 land at MLA in September, (during the Airshow).

On approach, it filled the frame.

Yeah! When aircraft perform go-arounds at LGW they come low over my house, shame I missed the Tri-star, what a brilliant shock that would have been to see 2000ft above me!

Was it loud?

When I was deployed in the Gulf (2008), I used to hear (then see) VC10's taking off all the time - now those WERE loud (and smoking!)!!

Also, an An124 landing (reverse thrust) at BZZ last year woke me up from my sleep on the other side of the airbase!
