F/A-18 Doing Stunts At NAS Oceana

Tue Mar 20, 2012 8:08 pm

I live in Virginia Beach about .7 mile from the approach end of Runway 23R at NAS Oceana. About every other day for the past month, between 1530 and 1600, a single F/A-18 has been doing stunts over the airfield i.e. rolls, loops, high speed passes, etc. Basically it is a one airplane air show. There is no organized air show coming up at Oceana in the near future that I am aware of. In fact as I am typing this, an F/A-18 just did a high speed low pass over my house. I'm curious to know why this takes place and why it takes place so often?

Well.. I'm not positive, but it sounds like the US Navy practicing & getting their routine certified for this air show season.

Especially if they are training a new pilot.

lol, back when I was in cadets, I did a 6 week course in CFB Cold Lake... and the demo CF-18 was practising his routine for nearly a week, it was quite hard doing drill and tuning that out!

Thanks for the info. I can almost set my clocks to when he does the low pass over my house.
