More than a million fake electronic parts from China have been found in US military aircraft, posing a risk to national security, an investigation has revealed.

A report by the US Senate uncovered 1,800 cases of bogus parts - including some in special operations helicopters and the US Air Force's largest cargo plane.

The total number of individual components involved in these cases exceeded one million, the Committee on Armed Services publication said.

I was also surprised to find out that the next biggest sources of counterfeit parts was the UK and Canada. China I can kinda imagine these being made without the authorities caring, but I am surprised such high tech parts can be made and slip into the official supply chains here.

When you use the word "fake" are you saying these parts don't work or that they're illegal copies but they do work? "Fake" implies they don't work and weren't even designed to work but were made to look like the real McCoy.

In this context, "fake" means parts that have been made to replace certified components, but haven't themselves undergone certification - so they may work, they may not, they might not be the correct grade of material, have the same strengths or the same heritage as certified parts.

This goes back to the vendor who is gathering the parts for the military not fully checking where the parts come from. They may also be buying the parts directly as parts made in China costs a lot less, so they can increase their profits.
