Aircraft Boneyards

Sat Nov 03, 2012 11:54 pm

I love the subject of active airplanes, but remain fascinated about airplane boneyards. In the last year I've had the privilege of visiting Davis-Monthan AMARG, Mojave Airport, Kingman Airport, Pinal Airpark, and even the American Eagle Saab 340 storage facility in Abilene Texas. I've taken a good many photos at each site.

I'm still researching and photographing this subject. Here's what I've come up with thus far ...

You should get out to Victorville, CA also! Socal Logistics (AKA George AFB) has an impressive collection itself.

Indeed it does KC135. But how is general facilities access. I drove around it once, but it didn't seem like there were a lot of really good viewing areas.

I haven't attempted to get too close to the airport but I am sure access to it isn't impossible. I'm sure a politely worded email to the airport manager stating your intentions would grant you access to nearly anything you wanted with an escort. If you can crack the code on that, you'd get some great material for your photography.

If country doesn't matter, there's always the Russian graveyard on approach to domodedovo.
