TAI completes manufacturing of last F-16. Started in 1984, TAI, with 4200 employees, produced 308 F-16s and now will only do upgrades.

Wow, I thought I did a pretty good job keeping up with Military Aviation, but I had no idea the Turks built F-16's. Maybe we can save some money on the F-35 by having the Turks build them too?

I don't have the details but IIRC, TAI will also produce some F-35 parts, since Turkish Air Force will buy around 100 F-35s. Similarly Sikorsky and TAI will produce 600 or so Blackhawk S-70s in Turkey, once agreement signed.

Glad to hear it TK787! I greatly admire Turkish Aviation and all it's related branches. A good friend I used to work with as a contractor in Iraq is Turkish and he took us on a great two week tour of Turkey. Beautiful country, beautiful people!

Also in the article, it mentions the US Ambassador to Turkey, Mr. Frank Ricciardone. I met him when he was in charge of the Civilian Observer Unit (COU) in the Sinai when I was on peacekeeping duty there back in 1990. Spent some time talking to him and found him to be a very personable and friendly guy, especially to me, a lone peacekeeper. I have followed his career and can honestly say that Turkey has a great US Ambassador!

I hope the Sikorsky deal goes through. In my uneducated opinion, it sounds like a "Win-Win" deal.

Best Wishes,

F
