Identity Of This KC-135E?

Sat Apr 20, 2013 12:52 am

Hello,

I've actually been meaning to ask this for a while, because it's been a couple of years since I first noticed this aircraft hanging around. It appears that there's an old KC-135E parked at the Lincoln (NE) Airport/guard base (across from the passenger terminal- you can also see it in the links) in heavily faded AMC gray. From the one time I saw it in person, it appeared to have a Nebraska ANG tailflash, but I'm not certain. Does anyone know the identity (that is, the serial number/registration) of this ship? And as an extension, does anyone know what it's doing here? My best guess is a trainer for the fire crews, but if anyone can confirm this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks in advance for any knowledge anyone has to offer!

Erik

Its hard to say, but the NEANG 155 ARW flew the KC-135E for a few years before converting to the KC-135R. The NEANG got their first KC-135E in 1993, IIRC.

Nebraska Guard converted directly from RF-4Cs to KC-135Rs, with the first R model arriving in January 1993. Several of my colleagues from Offutt moved there; one is now a state senator.

I will quiz the folks in the '135 community to determine which KC-135E is there and why.

I think it's 57-1495 based on Joe Baugher's site.
