Air Force Two Stuck In Flagstaff

Tue Apr 30, 2013 7:35 am

Air Force Two arrived at Flagstaff Pulliam Airport on Friday April 26,2013. I watched it land on runway 21 and it appeared to make a 180 and back taxi to A8 into Wiseman Aviation. Somewhere during the landing or taxi FOD was ingested into one of the engines. The plane that operated in on Friday was 90003 but another one was sent to pick up the Vice President on Sunday. The details were released to the media on Monday and it should fly out on Tuesday. How common is this sort of thing? The only incident like this I recall was when Air Force One carrying President Clinton got stuck in the mud during taxi at a small airport in Illinois. Anyone recall any others?

I know of an incident in the fall of 2008 when VP Cheney was visiting a rural airfield (KSGT, apparently for duck hunting) in Arkansas. An early winter storm iced over Air Force Two and there was no de-ice capability at the airfield. With Air Force Two unable to fly, VP Cheney traveled via motorcade to Little Rock AFB and boarded the C-17 that was supposed to pick up his motorcade at KSGT. The C-17 flew back to Andrews, with VP Cheney and his motocade on board, with call sign Air Force 2!

That is actually pretty funny. Btw I saw this story made NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams reporting VP Biden had to take Air Force Three to get home . . . I think I need to lay down now, my head hurts

Is the Secret Service looking into who placed the FOD?

Pay no mind to Brian Williams, like quality TV programming, even the NBC News isn't worth the time...had they done even just a little bit of research, they would have quickly learned the aircraft that the VP in is is "SERVICE" Two.

I thought I heard it was a maintenance issue, and it was a problem of getting the parts brought in. Downside of being a 757 is you can't exactly pack along your own parts break out, so if you go down, hope there is a flight out of Andrews soon.
