End Of The Line For The Mig-21...

Tue May 07, 2013 2:57 pm

http://china-defense.blogspot.com/2013/05/rurmor-of-day-last-j-7s.html

The J-7 which is the Chinese produced version of the Mig-21 is finally going to cease production after deliveries the the Bangladesh Air Force.

That would cap a remarkable 50+ year run production run for this aircraft. BTW this is the aircraft that will replace the J-7

I think only the C-130 has been the only other airplane in continuous production for 50+ years. It was a great run by the Mig-21/J-7/F-7/F-13 design, producing almost 11,500 airplanes. The Mig-21 was also a great adversary, and produced about 20 Aces, most from the NVAF.

Quite impressive. I guess we will see the aircraft for many decades to come.

On the other hand, I am impressed how long some out of production aircraft remain in service: F 4 Phantom gets retired in Germany this year and remains in service at other countries, and even more impressive is the service life of the B-52 and KC -135.

How much do a 1960s Mig-21 and a 2013 J-7 have in common, btw?

Probably very little. But at least the J-7 is a licensed copy of the MiG-21, contrary to the old assumption.
