I really don't know a whole lot about the works of ejecting, but sounds like the pilot was found still attached to his seat 300m. from the wreckage.

Well it's been a long time but the ACES II ejection seat as fitted to the F-16 is one of the most advanced there is. It takes only 0.9 seconds from the moment that the pilot pulls the handle till he is clear of the aircraft, 1.3 seconds till he is clear of the seat and 1.9 seconds till he is hanging from his chute, in zero/zero conditions. So unless he shot himself into the ground from an inverted position or something else (technical) was wrong,.. the seat in itself (in theory) allows to get out of a lot of situations.

RIP to our fellow aviator. Hope the cause of this sad accident will be found

The ACES II isn't exactly a foolproof ejection seat. The F-16 can easily exceed the safe ejection parameters of this seat. It's possible that there could have been a sequencing failure as well with the seat systems. I'm sure the investigation will determine why the seat didn't do it's job or why the safe ejection envelope was exceeded.

My condolences to the pilot's family and friends.
