Unmarked C-17 At IAH 6/26

Thu Jun 27, 2013 3:48 am

Today at work at IAH, I saw a C-17 taxi by. I stopped dead in my tracks as it clicked that it was a C-17, but I noticed all the markings were covered up except the yellow reflective strips. There were obviously decals over the marks so it wasn't completely unmarked, but one decal near the tail on the fuselage was a circle, and not in the shape of the USAF roundel. Also, I the UAE Royal Flight 744 is in town and landed yesterday, 6/25, and parked on the east cargo ramp, along with some Gulfstreams that were sitting there before the 744 got there. The C-17 also parked in that area next to the 747, so I guess it's there to support the Emir, or VIP.

Any info would be appreciated.
And for my next miracle, I'm gonna turn water into funk!

The UAE does have six of them and their insignia is a circle (green outer rim with a white center).

Quoting TWA772LR (Thread starter):
This is the UAE roundel.

It also has UAE Air Force in both English and Arabic on it - however it was probably covered up as you mention.

Why would they cover up the insignia of the plane ?
Is this for possible anti AUE sentiment.
I was under the impression that the UAE was a friend of the USA.

Don't know about UAE but QATAR is running gun for Syrian Rebel using their C-17. So, sometimes it's political to have your plane covered up . . .

Also, if the visit was "non governmental" in nature, then it is also good to not have military markings shown on the airdraft.

Or horses for the Emiri, or vaccines for the poor, or oil drilling equipment, or Jimmy Hoffa's body, or a cargo bay filled with ping pong balls, or ...

Nah, the horses get their own VIP 747 cargo as the ride is much nicer
