India Issues Final Showcause Notice To AgustaWestl

Wed Oct 23, 2013 2:03 pm

Looks like this order may get cancelled which is not good for both parties. Hopefully they will find a solution. India badly needs these choppers.

Just a background, In 2010 IAF placed order for 12 x EH101s with Augusta Westland. Sikorsky S-92 and MI-17 were contenders. Mi-17 dropped out because they didn't want to sign integrity pact (anti-bribery) clause. In 2013 after 3 were delivered bribery news came out. India put payments and deliveries on hold pending review and cancellation.

This may be good news for Sikorsky.

Here is wiki about the whole fiasco.

I doubt you can find one arms deal in the history of the world that didn't involve bribery. Even when the buyer and seller are from the same country !

So, let's just give arms deals to the company willing to pay the most bribes? Otherwise, not sure what your point is...

http://zeenews.india.com/news/nation...india-orders-cbi-probe_828646.html suggests we're talking about 50M Euro kickback on a contract of 5900M Euro so something like 10% of the deal changed hands in the form of bribes.

We're not talking about wining and dining the customers, we're talking about tens of millions of Euros...
Inspiration, move me brightly!

It appears India has decided to cancel the order. This report says India will try to re-open talks with UTC(Sikorsky),EADS(Eurocopter) and Lockheed Martin, but there are other reports IAF may just increase the quantity of recent Mil order as they need these by next year.

Main sticking point Italy is not helping India in identifying Indian citizen who received bribes. India has a circumstantial case but all the evidence is with Italy.
