What is on top of the F-16?

Tue Jan 10, 2017 4:26 am

Hi all,

I checked search for this but couldn't find anything on it. I noticed that there is what I think is an antenna just in front of the tail fin. It's kind of shaped like a backwards facing bullet. Does anyone what this is? Thanks for your answers!

It houses the hydraulic actuator for the rudder and the parachute.

Parachute??? The ejection seat parachute is one component of the ACES II ejection system and in the seat, not located in the fuselage somewhere.

OK, that's a drag chute, located in the tail cone behind the vertical stabilizer only installed on certain models of the F-16. The thread starter was asking about something in front of the vertical stabilizer.

Yeh my bad, I should have said drag chute.
But yes, I see what the OP was taking about now. I initially thought he was referring to the "fairing" that starts before the VS.
I believe that the part the OP was actually referring to is where the refueling receptacle is.

IIRC, the antenna is actually the upper UHF/IFF antenna. The A/R receptical is in front of that antenna.
If we weren't all crazy we'd all go insane!
