Glowing Auras and ‘Black Money’: The Pentagon’s Mysterious U.F.O. Program

Sat Dec 16, 2017 8:05 pm

[quto]WASHINGTON — In the $600 billion annual Defense Department budgets, the $22 million spent on the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program was almost impossible to find.

Which was how the Pentagon wanted it.

For years, the program investigated reports of unidentified flying objects, according to Defense Department officials, interviews with program participants and records obtained by The New York Times. It was run by a military intelligence official, Luis Elizondo, on the fifth floor of the Pentagon’s C Ring, deep within the building’s maze.[/quote]

Two worthwhile snippets (imo) from letters to the editor:
Gosh, how handy. Just as Congress lavishes billions on the top 1% in the guise of tax reform, the NYT decides to get serious about UFOs.....

There is an infinite supply of poorly observed, unexplained phenomenon......

Then along the same line, we should remember Congressman Dana Rohrabacher's question to a NASA scientist during televised congressional hearings: “You have indicated that Mars was totally different thousands of years ago, Is it possible that there was a civilization on Mars thousands of years ago?

I love UFO research and articles regarding Bigelow and such. I've read multiple books on the matter. These programs still exist, in various forms.

What surprises me about this one is that the Pentagon admits they have no idea what this thing really is. (Talking about the F-18 / UFO encounter outside San Diego).

Why? It is a UFO, unidentified flying object. That doesn't mean it is flying from some other planet.

Why what? UFOs are interesting - regardless of where they originate.

More likely they want you to think it is from another planet. Most of these will probably be recon aircraft of some for or another. The 1970s onwards had a lot of programs running for research and development of extremely fast/advanced aircraft from various companies. Surely at least some of these produced functioning aircraft. Especially given some of them were regarded as "technically feasible".

You won't find very many pilots from the USAF, USN, or USMC willing to go public like the ones cited in the original post for obvious reasons. And those same reasons are why Missileers never spoke up about the unusual events that occurred over various installations in the Midwest during the SAC era.

This is a very puzzling article. It raises many questions, but nodoby seems to actually pose those questions.

Take a snip like this:

"Under Mr. Bigelow’s direction, the company modified buildings in Las Vegas for the storage of metal alloys and other materials that Mr. Elizondo and program contractors said had been recovered from unidentified aerial phenomena"

Now how can a newspapar publish a sentence like this without asking how on earth one recovers "alloys and other materials" from unifentified aerial phenomena?

Then also that piece about F18's chasing a UFO and publishing it as if this is a pretty common thing and nothing worth investigating. That, by the way, reminds me a lot of the Belgian F16's chasing a UFO in the '80's (and getting a weapons lock on it).

Now I'm not claiming we see proof of aliens visiting earth here. But it bloody annoys me when news like this is posted without the proper questions, invastigation and answers. Or at least an explanation why there are no answers.

And also I'm a bit tired about the showstop answer "experimental plane". There have been UFO sightings for decades being explained by "could have been classified experimental plane". Yet one would expect that a plane that was classified and experimental 30 years ago isn't classified and experimental anymore today. Then where are the planes that were supposed to be the explanation for the UFO-wave in Europe in the '80's?

Lots of stuff will remain classified and will never, ever be made public. There is no reason for them to have to release these things. Only just now we are getting releases of information on classified research programs from ages ago and even parts of those are still redacted.

I think there is a significant difference between the classified information being released recently and classified aerospace development programs. Classified aerospace development programs tend to become public when the techology has matured. Military craft first, commercial applications later (if there's a market). I can't imagine there were classified aerospace research programs in the '80's that we don't know by now.

So if there was a secret aerospace program that tested a craft with the impressive characteristics that were observed in the '80's, then we would know by now. Because that technology would have been used in larger non-cassified programs later on. Technology like the acceleration that was observed. Eyewitness reports are clear, those UFO's had enormous acceleration. Back in the '80's. I really can't imagine that if such classified techology existed back then, that it wouldn't be commercialised by now.

Again, not saying that those UFO's are alien craft. Only saying that I don't take the "classified program" argument anymore.

And for reference, the UFO wave I have in mind is in this short documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7psGj4M1ZI
Final explanation was actually the poor radar system in the observing aircraft. But a poor radar doesn't help explaining that what radar recorded was in line with the eyewitness reports. And if what was over Belgium in 1989 was a classified military thing, then really we should know now what thing that could have been. You can't keep techonoly like this secret for nearly 30 years.

The more you dive into the UFO question, the more questions surface. Mr Bigelow has had a government contract on UFO investigations for a while. Bigelow Aerospace is a serious business, they even have a module installed on the ISS.

If you'd like to know more about Bigelow and UFOs, I would recommend the book "The 37th Parallel" by Ben Mezrich.

"The existence of unidentified flying objects using technology more advanced than human capabilities has been proved “beyond reasonable doubt”, the former head of a secret US government programme has said."

If only they would share the proof they claim to have...

That remains the million dollar question: where is the proof?

Eyewitnesses still remain the lowest form of evidence and photographic evidence isn't much better. Anything from an alien spaceship, traveling many light years, will be interesting, even if it is an ash tray.
Many happy landings, greetings from The Netherlands!

That's not necessarily true. There are research projects across the spectrum (via academic, commercial, and military R&D) that never make it to public light. Not everything can or should be commercialized.
