It's official! Boeing is in talks with Embraer for tie-up.

Thu Dec 21, 2017 8:37 pm

Boeing has confirmed that it is in talks with Embraer for a “potential combination”. Still, if the deal needs to go through, Boeing would require approval by the Brazilian government. http://alph.st/p5170a28

Might need a little more info than that. Is this a military division tie up or commercial or both?

As stated in the PR by Boeing, there isn't any specifics like a particular division etc.

Game on!

But it is interesting how both the Airbus and the Boeing tie-ups with the smaller jet manufacturers will turn out finance-wise. It is not at all clear that these things are profitable. But who knows, maybe they can find a way to turn the programs into future 737/320 cash cows.

Interesting, but not good for competition.
Many happy landings, greetings from The Netherlands!

With Airbus and Bombardier in bed, Boeing doesnt have a choice.

Airbus is only acquiring part of the CSeries. According to Boeing's documents from the CSeries complaint, the CSeries competes with Boeing's existing 737 Max lineup. I suppose Boeing would gain an advantage over Airbus as the E-Jet family goes all the way down to 72 seats, but the CSeries starts at 110.

The advantages for Embraer / Brasil of having the Boeing BoD in control of the successful E-jets, is unclear to me at this stage.

I'm tempted to say that Hemingway nailed it. Wouldn't you agree?
