What Flt Sims Game Do You Have?

Mon Jun 12, 2000 11:13 am

I have ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) for ten years. I'm flying most of time on Airbus 320 and sometimes on 747-400. I do have scenery USA East/West and European transatlantic (Airline Simulator I). It was fun to fly all over the place. What do you have flight simulator game? Do you fly often or sometimes or very few? I fly three or four times a week average 3 to 5 hours a week. It was fun to fly! Thanks..

I have long since been a flightsim fan... since the early days of MS Flight Simulator with wire frame CGA graphics to FS4 with polygon VGA graphics to FS98 with its much better, though not great graphics. I have always had a few complants with FS98... even with a K6-2 350 it gets slow at times... and the way the ground rushes up when the ground altitude changes below you.... try flying to Big Bear Airport from the south and you will see what I mean. I have long since stoped using the stock aircraft since I found better versions on Flightsim.com. I don't play as much as I used to, but when I get in the mood I will attempt a transcon flight.

Without a doubt, FS2000 kicks butt....a lot better than FS98 (wow...it even loads up on my puter...something FS98 stopped doing ages ago). Just can't wait for the first Ilyushin or Antonovs to become available.

My favourite aircraft would have to be the Emirates 777. Why is that? Well when one of my hags comes over (she has just finished a 3 year contract with EK as an F/A), I will fly the plane from Dubai to Tehran or somewhere similar, whilst she serves me my drinks...there is no kicking the habit for her I am afraid.

Jane's F-15 is a good fighter simulator.....pretty damn hard too.

On Playstation I used to play until recently Wing Over 2, which is nowhere near as complex or involved as FS2000, but great for entertainment value all the same.

FS98
Fs2000

Man, the things I'd do to own a flight simulator that pilots use.

I fly a CO 777 all the time on FS2K, but unlike Brissie_lions, I can't get any hags to serve me drinks. Maybe I should call and lodge a complaint against CO! Brissie, you had me laughing my arse off with that comment!

I have both FS98 and FS2000 and while I agree FS2000 is for the most part a better FS, it seems to take awhile to run, especially when changing views from the cockpit to the scenery. I don't know if it is because I have the FS 2000 professional version of it and that is just the way it is.

This despite the fact I have a 500mhz, Pentinum III Dell system!

I currently use Fly for Macintosh, though I do have copies of the Mac versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator 1.02 and 4.0 (the two versions MS released for the Mac) around somewhere.

I found something a long time ago, that I have been dying to do. This would be a treat for us flight simmers that want a chance at close to the real thing!!!. http://www.ualservices.com/flight_training/daypilot.htm

You get the chance, depending on which package you get, to spent 30-60 minutes in one of United's 30 full motion simulators at their facility in Denver!!! Ever since I first found this years ago I have always wanted to do this. Maybe one day I will get my chance. Oh... my regular ships that I fly in FS98... I found a really good sim of a UA 727-222A in the new colors that is very visually accurate... down the to hushkitted engines and have full moving parts. Also any of CamSim's pro-max series planes are excellent and i have been flying a good , again with full moving part, a new Horizon Air CRJ-700ER... It is wonderful to fly.

Happy flying all!!!

DesertJets: There is a place in London that also does that. I forget the name, but it's an organisation that uses British Airways simulators, and for like £200 (roughly US$280-300) you get instruction, and get to fly a British Airways pilot training simulator. If I had £200 I'd do it the next time I go to the UK.

I have FS2000, and I'm addicted to downloading. Aside from the standard default planes, I have downloaded well over 20 aeroplanes from third-party sources...no make that 30...hold on...the official count is...81. Kind of misjudged that one. Okay, I gotta go. Time for fleet rationalisation.

I used to play FS4 a million years ago, then kind of drifted off of flightsims for a while, then got FS98. It was horrible on my old 90MHz laptop, then I got a 400MHz PIIMMX, which was awesome. Then I got FS2000. While it ran OK on the PII, it wasn't too fun. Then I got my computer for college, a 866 MHz PIII, and FS2000 is mindboggling.

I have FS98. It runs smoothly on my PII 233. Even before I bought a TNT2 video card. But the best sim I have played is X-Plane. It is so much better than FS98 or FS2000. I had a teacher at my school last year who is a retired navy pilot, and he said that X-Plane was the most realistic sim he had ever played.

None, they're all c*rap. I was given MS2K as a present, IT IS NOT REALISTIC GUYS! If you just want to pass time, and not aiming to be serious, fine, it's probably worth it.

If you're serious, career-wise, don't go anywhere near the thing. Spend money on proper flying lessons, or get to a place which offers the public sessions on the REAL sims. Even they are not perfect, but close, and uncomparable to PC games. I have "flown" the Trident and 777 sims (777 with BA), and yes, they are expensive (£200 the BARE MINIMUM I might add), but they are as close as you and me are going to get to flying heavy stuff for a long while yet.

In the UK, the BA sims, are found here http://www.virtualaviation.co.uk.

And for those of you who know what I mean: no, I am not just quoting ppruners, it is my own honest opinion, which (I am happy) concurs with those who should know.

Cheers,
ts
