Who Wears Glasses?

Sat Jun 24, 2000 3:49 am

Hey everyone,
I was wondering who in this forum wear glasses. I wear them, and I have for the last 20 years. I also have contacts but I hate them. Who else wears contacts or glasses here though?

I wear disposable contacts and I just love them.

I have never worn glasses from day one for cosmetic reasons. I am too vain and I have broken and lost too many pairs of nice sunglasses to be bothered with vision glasses.

I refuse to consider laser surgery because the technique is too new and I have friends who have had problems with after effects.

I've had glasses for 10 years. I've had contacts for 4 years. They are way better than glasses. I'll probably get laser surgery in a couple of years.

I wear glasses, but only when my vision is vital, such as driving at night.

I wear glasses too, since age of 15 . I only hate them when I go swimming but otherwise I don´t even mind them.

I wear glasses. I haven't worn them for about two months though. My little boy threw them out the car window. Real smart...NOT.

I will eventually get a new pair.

I've worn glasses all my life, but just last Christmas, I've gotten a newer, smaller pair of specs - and this time they come with clip-on shades! Love'em!

I can't really wear contacts, not because of allergies(I have none, BTW), but because of astigmatism and that my eyes are a bit small.

I'm wary of laser surgery because this is a new technology and may have harmful side effects.

I think that laser should not be considered as that much new, this has been applied in former USSR more than 15 years ago and developed since then.

I wear sun glasses ( they are oakleys) and what i hate is that they just broke but the place I bought them at(sunglass hut) can send you an envelope that you fill out then send it to oakley and they charge you based on repair.
Give me a break, I created this username when I was a kid...

I wear glasses and have since I was 15. I don't waer then all the time because I am only slighty shortsighted and can see well enough without them. I only wear them when I drive, at night and when I want to look a year older (It works I might add).

As for people who want to correct their vision but not have laser surgery. I have been told of Ortho-K lenses which are contact lenses which can correct the curve on the cornea of the eye, which means that glasses don't have to be worn.

I've had some form of eye enhancement since I was 12. I used to wear glasses exclusively, but now I stick to contacts. I wouldn't minde getting laser surgery, but it's pretty expensive now.

Ugh! wearing glasses kills me! I take it off once I finish reading a book or get off the PC.

PS: Who would want to be called a "4 eyed"?

I'm actually supposed not to look down with my glasses when reading, but just look at the lower part of the lens when reading.I don't do it, I dont even care about heeding the optician!!

I honestly don't care being called 4 eyed, as most people will have the common courtesy of not calling you that.

I wear glasses in the early morning and late at night before and after I wear my contacts. I don't have a problem with contacts or glasses, except that the lenses sometimes get fogged up. Has anyone had or going to get Lasik, the Laser Eye Treatment?

I have worn glasses for almost 18 years. Since I have worn them so long, they are a part of me. I feel naked without them. My husband says I look cute with my glasses on.

As for lasik, they show the operation on late night TV for the opticians who perform the surgery. I thought about doing it until I found out you have to be awake the whole time. NO WAY!! I hate having anything near my eyes. I will reconsider if they can completly knock me out and promise I will have no memories of the operation.

I have been wearing glasses for over 35 years and have tried contacts 3 different times and can't seem to get used to them. The optician keeps telling me that I will have to eventually get bi-focals, ugh! I will try and keep that day at bay for as long as I can!!

Everybody will have to wear glasses. How long time is left until you turn 40 or 45?
Don't think about laser sugery unless you are extremely near sighted. Laser surgery is sometimes considered a substitute for glasses. That's only partly correct. First you have to be very lucky with the operation not to need correction at all to have a perfect eyesight after the operation.
But in any case, long time before you are fifty - and everybody becomes fifty one day if they live long enough - then you will need reading glasses, computer glasses, car driving glasses, and bi- or multi-focals for utility use. That's how it is. And at that time you can also just forget about contact lenses because you can't change them fast enough as needed.
To those of you who hate glasses: Get rid of that syndrome before forty, or you will suffer. You will get headache in front of your computer screen. You will become an unsafe driver. Your arms will grow as long as rattle snakes when reading a newspaper. Depending on the conditions of your eyes at least one or two of these things will happen to you if you don't accept to wear glasses.
I always had a perfect eyesight without any correction. I got my first glasses at 48, that was a few years too late.
It isn't my fault. God created man with eyes with an automatic focusing mechanism which wear out after 40-45 years of use and cannot be replaced with original spare parts. Don't argue with God about that. There is no other way but adapting to the situation and buy your own auxiliary focusing tools, glasses to fit your needs.
At the first test flight of the NASA Space Shuttle TV pictures were sent back from the flight deck. Some young journalists were shocked and asked NASA how they could trust this expensive ship to a man with bad eyes? NASA answered that commander John Young had perfect eyesight, but since he wasn't a youngster any more - in fact he was fifty - then of course he used his reading glasses when going through the checklists.
It's cool to wear glasses because they can adapt your eyesight to all circumstances as if you were 18 years old.

I've been wearing glasses for about 9 years. Never thought about contacts... I don't consider my dexterity good enough for handling those!
