TW,

Yep...I was demoted to an alderman, then again, an alderman is a ward (district) emperor in Chicago, although Hizzoner (the mayor) is God.

Seriously, I'm from the southern suburbs of Chicago near the Indiana border, but don't tell anyone.

Yeah, but look at all you have in South Holland. You have.... well there's.....and, ummm....railroad tracks??? Well, at least it's named after a cool country.

Hey dude it could be worse. You could be from my hometown downstate. It's been in the national news lately several times, none of it positive.

I had to chill out...

Unfortunately, Dutch-Americans can be quite ultra-conservative...my sister-in-law and her family are quite nice though.

Where 'bout downstate? Anything beyond the collar counties is considered downstate...is it a little east of St. Louis? or did you play in Peoria?

There once was a guy from Decatur...

I've spent time in the ESL hood though. I'll have to tell you my war stories sometime.

I frickin LOVE Chicago. It's my kind of town.

Illinois, especially Chicago, has some of the poorest and toughest suburbs (Dixmoor, Ford Heights & Phoenix) in the country.

Til now, I've worked all my life in Gary, IN and I didn't mind it at all (it wasn't boring to say the least), and the majority are good and honest people--that's why I don't piss on the poor and the disadvantaged...

Sorry, I'm preaching...better go.

Don't mind your preaching. I went to school at SIU Edwardsville. That's why I was down in the East St. Louis area. It was eye-opening for me. I thought I'd seen poverty and desolation after seeing Cabrini Green, and even parts of Decatur. Nothing compared to what I saw in ESL. Blocks of burnt-out houses and cars. That was back in '93, so I hope things have improved. Downtown ESL wasn't bad though. In fact, I used to party at a bar there. There's also a big casino complex there that was fun. I did a project for a class where we filmed and produced a documentary about the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force. I got to ride around ESL with state troopers at 1 in the morning looking for stolen cars/thefts in progress. St. Clair and Madison Counties were the #2 and 3 counties for car theft in Illinois at the time (after Cook, I believe). It was very much like the show "Cops". VERY interesting experience to say the least.
