Dom. Rep.

Hello everyone.

I am really curious to know why is it that european people love going to the Dominican Republic. People from France, Spain, Portugal and specially Germany love going there.

Trust me, I know is one the most beautiful islands of the caribbean but there is got to be something else that attracks your attention. Is it the culture, the girls, the non-stop partying, the weather, the beaches?

I am a native from the Dominican Republic currently residing in the U.S. Everytime I go back home I spend a lot of time in resorts and I notice a lot of Europeans.

You guys seem to enjoy it so much that it gives me pleasure to see you in such joy!!! I recall one time when I spent about a week with a tour of Germans that was staying in the same resort I was staying in. You guys can sure drink boy. I tell you.

PS - If you are not from Europe and you have been to D.R. please tell me about it. I want to know what you thought of it.

Hi Aa777dr,

I'm German but haven't been to the D.r., yet. I think what attracts all the Europeans is first of all, that it is very cheap to get and to stay there.
Right now you can get a week All inclusive for about the same price you pay for a week in Spain, Greece, Portugal, ...
Other than that there's almost a garanty of good weather. Then there are nice beaches.
Ok, there are nice beaches in Europe too but it's not the Carribean.
Europeans are having lots of fun there.
But the main thing is as already mentioned the low prices.

Hola Aa777dr,

I haven´t been, but many friends had. Dominicana is great, especially they loved Punta Cana, its beaches and the people.

I think Europeans mainly go there as it is quite cheap. They also feel attracted to the people, as Latins we are in general warm, outgoing and sexy while in those countries people is generally cold and reserved. So that contrast is what they like.

In Dom. Rep you get a very good value for your money and very good service like in Phuket. There loads of charters flying to the Dom. Rep. each day.

And most european resorts like the canaries (beautiful), italy, spain or portugal cost a whole lot more than the Dom. Rep .

I didn't know it was that cheap from Europe. Being that it is so far from the D.R.

On being very cost effective I do agree with you all. From NY it's about $800 all inclusive for 7 nights with airfare taxes, and transportation to and from the airport. I never really stay in the hotels because I have a lot of relatives and friends there. I do go to the hotels for the weekends.

Thanks much.

DR Question

Sat Aug 19, 2000 6:44 am

Just wondering, do a lot of Dominicans (in the DR, not in the USA or elsewhere) know English as well as Spanish? And how is the Spanish spoken there different than the Spanish spoken in other Latin countries?

Create your own luck.

Not really. English, French & German is sopken alot in the tourist areas (because of the tourists). When you go inland you don't find that many english speaking people although you will find some. It's more like one out of 20 people speaks english.

Hope that helps.
