Ignorant Teenagers

Thu Sep 21, 2000 10:58 am

Being a teenager my self, I find the number of my peers who are ignorant remercable. The type of people who just come to school to skip classes and sit in the front yard smoking. The type that when you say "Who is Canada's prime minister" they say "Prime Minister??? What is Prime Minister". That is just one example I have many others I won't get into know.

What prompted this post is reading other post and then seeing that a teen wrote them reminded me that all hope is not lost.

Unfortunatley these ignorant people are what adults think of when they think of teens.

I don't want to bore you with more examples and reasons right now. Please respond.

Yep. You're right. I know that's what I think of when I think of teens.

I'm not sure what you want us to say, but I agree. There are the people that are constantly late, talk all class, do poorly in school because of it, get piss drunk every week-end, and are constantly sleeping that give the rest of us a bad name.

I myself have never been unexcusably late, failed a class or even a test, rarely get drunk, and never sleep past 8. Unfortunately we have to put up with this and until we're 20 or so, we'll have to live with this rep.

JAT... I completely agree with you. Now... if you are truly ignorant, that is one thing. But, if you don't try, don't do homework, don't show up for class, and fuss at the teachers.... that is another! I know a lot of people like that. I call them "skanks". I have always tried very hard and studied and I have never had a problem with a teacher. I do not associate with "skanks". But... if the person really trys to do good, and doesn't... I have no problem with them. A lot of these "skanks" don't have responsible parents and are able to make too many choices. If I were to make a low grade... my mom would help me raise it and encourage me to do better. I have never failed a class. I have failed a few tests but it is pretty rare. I have an A average. I think that my parents have contributed to that a lot. I am usually called a "prep" at school. All of my friends apply themselves and sometimes I turn to them for help with school. There is NO REASON for anyone to not try. My health occupations teacher was asking us what career we were considering... I, of course, said Airline pilot... one of these "skanks" told the teacher she wanted to be a bar tender. That is just sad! That same girl made a 28 on the last test we took.

BTW... seven_fifty7... I won't even say what pops into my mind everytime I think of people like you!

I hope that I have not offended anyone... just letting you know my opinion!

AC_A340: just wait till you get to University. There is no way you will be able to keep on waking up before 8am...in some cases I don't sleep until after 8am...

I can't stand ignorant teens, a lot of my friends will not pay attention to what i say if its longer than 10 seconds. Living in canada, i once asked a fellow canadian if he knew who the prime minister was (as a joke, long story), and his response was "I don't f**kin know! i dont watch the news!". I was completely shocked by that response because i wasn't prepared for it. I mean, how can someone live in the world, and not know where they are or who controls the country and that sort of thing. After that, i noticed how ignorant most of the people i know are.
I hate those people

I am proud to say that I am not one of them and will never be one. Although, about half of the kids in my grade are, but that is another story.......

Flyf15... LOL! That doesn't make any sense! If half of the people were "below average"... then that would not below average... it would be average! The few smart peeps causing the "average" to be so high would be considered outliers... I think. But... I know what you ment. Actually... at my school, the majority of the people do pretty good.

"John Cretin or someone? I think its a French guy." -That is the answer you will get in the United States about the Canada PM, if you are lucky!!

Here at my school, it is even worse. Many of the ignorant teens who don't give a damn about school are also exorbiantly rich, so you know they will probably succeed in life because of their inherent financial status. I don't really care if someone who slacks off and is ignorant has a baby at 17 and ends up making minimum wage for the rest of his life. He is paying for what he did (failed to do) with his childhood. But when you see people in good, expensive schools, not giving a damn about classes and actually being very content with a grade in the low 70s, it just isn't right. What's worse is that many of these people's parents don't give a damn either.

Don't even ask me about what the state of ignorance is in the U.S. because it is ugly, very ugly.

Dear JAT,
While I sympathise I cannot remove myself from all responsibility. For every effect there is a cause.

Yes, the teen scene is a bit embarrasing for a serious kid. Someone who thinks is bothered by a dope. What I have difficulty with are people who CAN yet DON'T. People who have a knife, fork and spoon that eat with their fingers are like those who have books that just will not read them.

It is time to work on a system of motivation in schools (negative or positive) that actually stimulates action and minds.
Do you have any ideas? I am serious JAT! America needs you. We older people need intelligent younger people to help this country's future. What needs to be done?

GE

Ps-even you have a little challenge with literacy. Keep working on this. Your posts leave out necessary periods, and divide words into two when they are supposed to be one. Our system has done this to you--but you can overcome this. Then you can help correct the system.

What we learned in school was that the reason these people are the way they are is becuase of their parents. The parents are usually baby boomers and feel they didin't get a fair advantage in life and so don't want to make the same "mistakes" as their parents did. This results in teens getting what ever they want from their parents and not having to worry about or work for anything because they know mommy and daddy will be there to bail them out.

If somone is trying then I respect them and encourage them. But most of these "skanks" are ignorant and respect nothing. Also they tend to look down upon anyone who exibits any signs of itelgence and knowledge.

I'll provide examples later, I too tired to type anymore.

To 'skanks', anyone that is smarter than them is a geek, prep or nerd. I dont associate with these "people".

Greeneyes53787, thanks for your compliment I guess.

By the way:

1. I am Canadian

2. In a sence(sp?) English is my second language (although my dad spoke English with me since I was born and refused to speak Serbian with me so I would learn English, although everyone else spoke Serbian so I ended up learning both languages equally, I make all these small mistakes, even more so at times when speaking/writing Serbian. By the way, I came to Canada in 1994 and knew how to speak and write and read English)

3. I am sloppy typer, I look at the keayboard rather than at the screen and often don't bither checking what I ended up writing. I guess i could work on that but I would end up typing a lot slower. Also, since I write almost everything on computer I don't have to worry about spelling as it is automatically corrected by the word processor and this contributes to my poor spelling.

Sorry by the way, all of this is off topic.

Around here, being in a well-to-do suburb of Detroit, all the teens are ignorant (I am a teen, but am not ignorant (can be sometimes) I fly coach, not first class). They are very narrowminded and never want to try anything new, yet they dont know what their missing. They are scared of standing out from the crowd. All wear Abercrombie and American Eagle. Most of all, they are dumb as a doornail. It makes me happy that I dont go to the public schools. THEY ARE TOO MATERIALISTIC!

Being in Gr. 10 honours, I often find the people in my classes very pathetic in how they act as well...

I can't believe they actually got INTO Honours class!!!
I once asked my best friend (who happens to be a girl)'s brother "When is Canada Day?" and he responded "Isn't it July 4th???"..I can't believe it!!! I am a very paranoid person. If I get ONE C- in a interim report, I will start studying like hell even though the next test away is next month...but the other guys procrastinate so badly that they study the night before...I just can't stand that...Whoops..I'm WAY off topic now...urm...that's just my $0.02 CDN...

SKYTEAM, that is great. It shows those ignorant dumb-asses that a person doesn't have to be stupid to be on a sport team and vice versa.

I like your good sense. You sound very intelligent. I have smart friends in Farmington Hills. Some of these people are stuck on themselves though.

But best of all--you understand that you are not what you possess. The real you is inside. But what defiles you comes from inside outward. Your words defile you (and me). So we use the best words we can.

You're smart.

GE

Ps-watch your spelling. "Don't" is not "Dont."

Trvlr and N312RC:
Your stories about rich, ignorant, dumb kids is all to familiar to me. I go to a private school with high academic standards, and a kid once received 48 detentions in one year, but was still not expelled because his father was on the board of trustees and his grandpa had his name on the building.
At my school, unfortunately you can be as dumb as a doorknob and get in, as long as your family is loaded. The school still says it has a strong academic policy, and it does, don't get me wrong, I still like it, and it is one of the top schools in the DFW area, but like everything else these days, corruption is even affecting schools.

I heard of a story that of a guy that wanted to go to Ottawa in Kansas, so he bought a ticket to Ottawa from greyhound, it said "Ottawa, CA" (which meant Canada) but he didn't know that, he thought it was the same thing as Kansas...anyways 4 days later, he realised that his 4 hour bus trip went on a bit too long, and arrived into Ottawa after passing the border. Thats when he realised he had gone to the wrong place.

lol, i dont know if its true, but it sounds pretty funny

I don't think many people in my school in HK watches the news. Although I read the papers and watch the news most of the time, I still can't remember when Chinese National Day is!
I'm well off, I know that but my school's full of rich people. I rank myself pretty low in school in terms of amount of money. Some people don't know something that happened which had been on the headlines for days! Some people are ignorant but others are not.

Bombstar: I heard of the Ottawa thing. Two cases.
1. Canadian Immigration jails Malaysian tourists under suspision (spelling?) of something (I forgot) after them saying that Niagara falls are in Toronto and their friend in Toronto graduated from Ottawa University USA.
2. The Greyhound thing but the other way round. Guy wants to go to Ottawa, Canada but ends up in Ottawa USA.

Both cases involve adults so it's not just teenagers!
