Leather Or Cloth?

Sat Oct 07, 2000 7:15 am

I am just wondering, do you prefer leather, or cloth (e.g. in your car, furnature...etc.)? I really dont care. I almost prefer cloth on furnature b/c it is comfortable. In a car leather is good. but up here in SD, its frickin freezing, and in the summer its rosting. So, what is your preferance?

Thanks.

My Park Avenue seats are of leather, as are my Riviera and my living room sectional (sofa).

Leather is easy to clean but very rich. Vinyl is easy to clean but not rich. Cloth is not easy to clean but can be plush--and sometimes rich.

I like both, but in a car I prefer the hide. Sheepskin over leather is good. British leather is mighty high in quality--and rich. German (Mercedes) leather is also high in quality but lacks richness. Many prefer the latter. I don't like the holes and sewing design. RR leather is the best (my opinion) but it is hard as a saddle (not actually) for the break in period of about ten years.

I like leather car seats, in our Acura and Buick we have them. Theyre heated during the winter, but during the summer, your on your own. Cloth for furniture, of course.

I have a leather sofa and loveseat, and everyone who comes over remarks at how comfortable they are. I'd prefer leather in a car, but the one I drive doesn't have it. The next one will, for sure!

Greeneyes53787 - the so-called German (Mercedes) leather you referred to might just not be German at all. It could very well come from South Africa, as we have a thriving industry exporting leather car interiors to Germany.

Oh yes, that new 3-series BMW standing in your local American dealer showroom might just have been made in South Africa too. BMW SA has just commenced manufacture of left hand drive 3-series for export to America!

I like leather a lot more than fabric in a car. If it is hot, fabric (especially in Fiats) makes my back a lot more sweaty than leather. Leather is also harder to stain.

Leather in some cars sucks, In my stepbrothers Acura he has leather, anyhow on a semi-warm day (around 80 degrees) with the air conditioning on full blast, my rear end and back still get sweaty. Mercedes Leather is great, my stepmom has a 1986 300E, the seats are the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in, and they keep my backside cool.

I have to go with the cloth. Have you sat on a leather car seat when it has been sitting outside in -20 F weather all night???

Leather:

First Class section or Business class.
Jackets are cool.

Cloth:

In car and furniture.

I burned my butt once so bad in Florida on the leather seats in my Uncle's Gran Fury I had blisters!!!!!
