An Idea............

Sat Nov 04, 2000 4:48 am

How hard would it be to have a button on the bottom that you click before you post that is a spell checker? I think people would use this, and it would help many of us out. And there would be no reason for bad spelling on here!
Any thoughts?

Good idea, pretty hard to implement though. It's been on my mind for some time, maybe it's a feature I can add in the future.

Thanks,

And which version of English should we use for such a spell checker? English or American English?

Should it be

Colour or color?
Humour or humor?
Bastardise or Bastardize?

Why not just leave it up to the poster to check their own grammer and spelling. Not that it should be a huge issue, as we all make misteaks.

Cheers

Brissie and Louis - People don't check there own stuff, if they did it would not be a problem. I just think it would look much better if there where no spelling mistakes. Brissie good point about that, they both are correct why not have them both acceptable??

Despite my best attempts my ability to proofread my own work is abysmal, as many a professor can attest. Mistakes do slip through. A spelling checker would be nice if it can be implemented, but then, that is an area where I have no expertiese.

A problem would be that quite a few posts that are correctly typed have things that are not words, as this is an aviation forum. In aviation we use many codes, abbrieations, ... that would reak havoc on a spell checker!

Perhaps if you wanted to get detailed, you can have different options. Proper English and American.
