Since I just posted a topic about dreams, I thought I'd follow up with something called Dreamland, which is the title of Robert Miles' first album. I was just wondering if any of you have heard it and like it? It has got to be one of my all time favorites. Dreamland contains the classic song "Children". I'm sure most of you have heard it, even if you don't know who it is.
Dreamland has got to be one of the most versatile music styles. The only way I can describe it is this:
You can dance to it. You can have it playing as a background music to thought and study. You can cruise down the highway with it blasting at the point of pain. You can listen to it on your Sony Discman while walking along the beach, lost in a maze of hazy thoughts of love, life, accomplishments, and happiness.
You can play it at a party. Or you can play it while doing the chores around the house.
On a basic level, it would be considered dance/borderline techno. But it is not very fast. Upbeat, but not fast. It has an etheral mix of background synthesizers mixed in for that soothing relief from the beat. Most of the tracks also have piano chords mixed in. All but two of them are pure instrumental. The two tracks with vocals, "One and One", and "Fable" are sung by a female with a very high pitched, childlike, yet seductive tone. If this sounds like something you might like, I highly recommend it.
My favorite tracks are:
"Fable" (both versions)
"One and One"
"Princess of Light"
Any other "Dreamland" fans here?
Robert Miles also did a second album, titled "23 AM". For the most part, it was a total departure from Dreamland. The only elements of that first album contained in 23 are the songs "Freedom" and "Textures".
the rest of it is this worldly sounding wierd shit consisting of 8 and 10 minute songs that consist of little more than some background chanting.
Also, as a footnote, "Freedom" is being used in a car commercial right now. I don't remember for what auto maker, but look for the one that you hear the woman singing "Freeeee.....everyone is free......"
That's "Freedom" from 23 AM".
