Ahh! The End Of The Trimester/thanksgiving Break!

Mon Nov 20, 2000 10:54 am

I am very happy because tuesday is the end of the trimester and the beggining of thanksgiving break. I am happy because the teachers are not allowed to give homework between two trimesters and no school! I am happy because I may actually get some sleep for once!
Is it the end of the trimester/semester for anyone else on this forum? just curious. I will actually be able to eat at a restaurant(no cafeteria, no mcdonalds) our school is right by a big shopping center. I will also get to watch TV and enjoy things that students don't get to do because of homework, man, am I happy. 3:45(well 3:00 because we have a convocation and i don't count that as a class) I am outta school for a week! yeehaw!

Yes, this Wednesday is the last day of school for me. Then it's into the car and off to Ohio for Thanksgiving dinner Wednesday - homecooked in her little house in their little farmy podunk town - oooooh... those are the good times!

I get out that day as well. It will be the first true break for me since, let me see, uhh, summer. Although you might say, well what about the weekends, I am loaded with work then too, and I have other extracurriculur commitments like hockey. Basically, as sad as this might sound, I have no life other than school and hockey.
Ahh, a break when I can not have to worry about doing a single thing other than asking myself, "How late should I sleep in?"
But, on wednesday morning I plan on getting up at the crack of dawn and going out to DFW airport to see the arrival of AA's last DC10 flight. What did I tell you, I have no life other than hockey, school, and airplanes (for which most of my friends think is a stupid hobby).
However, I consider myself very lucky to have all of my extended family living within an area of 10 square miles.

You're right, we do. We get waaaay too many in my opinion. As it happens, there've been less 5-day school weeks this year than 3 or 4 day. It's rather patehtic. We have late arrival Monday, so that's another half day!
PLEASE DO NOT HATE ME FOR THIS BUT:
I seriously think the US Public School system sucks. It really has very little value to me and is highly conformist. In the mean time, they give us too many days off. Okay... enough of that, I'm going to go back to thinking about sweet memories...

I only have 1.5 days of school next week. I don't really see the point.
My immediate family is not really doing anything this year; we will have our Thanksgiving dinner alone as opposed to with 2 or 3 relatives like usual. Everybody else in our family went to either Las Vegas or Florida, and my grandparents are too tired fromt their trip to Europe to fly out to San Diego. Too bad

Tuesday is technically my last day of classes at Purdue before Thanksgiving break, but both of my classes Tuesday have been cancelled. My 12:30 class was cancelled because we are having a night exam next week, and university policy requires professors to give a class period off for each nigh exam; my 11:30 class was cancelled because it was the only class anyone had that day, so the professor chose not to make us stay. This is why it sucks to travel on a revenue ticket... I booked my trip months ago, when I thought I'd have class, so I'm stuck in Indiana until 9 pm Tuesday, when I could easily be at the airport at 24 hours earlier. Tuesday is my birthday, and I'm going to spend it sitting at Purdue - all of my friends are leaving Monday night - and I won't arrive home in San Diego until Wednesday morning. Had I not bought a ticket and simply flown stand-by, I could leave Monday night and spend my birthday at home!

Thank God, I'm really getting anxious to travel, the "cabin fever" type feeling. My last day of classes is Wednesday. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone on my dad's side of the family when I go out to Boston the same day...I can't wait!

Ah yes... 22 hours and 20 minutes before my flight is scheduled to leave. Then I get to spend the next 5 days with family in Montana. Then 2 and half weeks of classes, then back to Montana I go... I can't wait, I'm getting so burnt out from school...

The entire public school system does not suck, as it is not really a national system, it is by district. For instance: Dallas Independent School District (DISD) which administers all the public schools within the city is probably the worst district in the area. It is a complete mess, but other districts, like Plano ISD and Highland Park ISD are in perfect order. Thus, since I live in the DISD grounds, I go to private school, not public.

I agree with SN330. When I was living in Mass., I went to an excellent public school. Better than any I went to in Canada. South Carolina was a different story though and I ended up going to a private school. It really depends on the state and the district you live in.

Well... I go to a high school that's one a couple National Excellene in Education awards. It is a great school, I s'pose... I didn't know days off were by district though, and we take too many. It is also quite conformist here, I don't know about elsewhere.

It is a lot of work in high school I must say. We practice three days a week are in the weight room the other 2 and games are on weekends. So it is very busy this time of year!!

My last day of school was today. Although my Semester doesn't end until early January, that's when mid-terms are. BTW, I do go to a private school, as I live in Boston. However, where I used to go to school, is rated the best public high school in Massachusetts. So I concur with Sn330, that it's the school district where you live, not the whole national public school system, although I do think that the government could put some more cash into improving our nation's education. I think every presidential candidate for years has promised that, but end up spending more and more on military, despite promises of cutbacks.
