What airline is your favorite when it comes to the food they serve?

Well, I have only flown on American and Alaska, and I can say that American's food is better by far.

So far, i'd say Northwest in Economy. Some of their sandwiches are quite tasty (hot ones), and the Leonardo's Pizza.

My views as expressed above are my views alone and do not constitute the views of my employer.

Hey at VAA we use the top chefs and they produce some pretty suave dishes.

Washed down with some Bailey's and Bob's your uncle!

Northwest is just about the only airline we CAN fly out of DTW, but I have flown lots of other airlines, including foreign ones (China Yunnan, Air China, British Airways). And most all American majors and Northwest's is the best by far, but compared to regular food it is pretty bad. Worst meal I've had on an airline was when I flew Air China PEK-KMG. I chose the "American Meal" which was scrambled eggs, sausage and salad. All mixed together! ICK!!

Out of all the airlines I have flown, I would have to say in coach Cathay Pacific was the best. I remember that on a flight from NGO to HKG they served us a main course of tempura over rice and it was the best coach meal I had ever had. I flew UA in international biz class once, and the food was really good and there was SO MUCH! I was dissapointed with BA's food. It wasn't anything special.

I flew Air China once from PEK to XIY (Xi'an, China) and although I commend them for giving the pax a near-full meal service for only an hour and a quarter flight, the food still sucked!!

JWM AIRTRANS: Is KMG the airport code for Kunming? How was your experience on Air China? They were ok when I flew them. When I went to XIY I took a 777. What a/c did you take and when you were in PEK did you leave from the new terminal? If so, how is it? The old one is really dirty and smells funny, so I was glad my plane was at a remote parking spot.

Aaron G-

Yah, KMG is teh airport code for Kunming. I liked Air China, except for the food. The seats in economy are like business class. I flew with a large school group and got stuck in the seat with no window, but the airline made up for it with extra seat pitch. I flew a 767-200. Yes, I have been through PEK's new terminal (both international and domestic) and I was quite impressed. Nicer than most US airports, but no spotters allowed  . I bet that the old terminal is kinda crappy. There are some amazing aircraft there and it was too bad that I had to be with a school group and we couldn't stop. But you should have seen me when we landed, I was awestruck by all the AC 777s and other "foreign" (to American) airlines.

Sorry this is kinda off-topic.

Did you go with a school group called "People to People"?? I know it's a long shot, but if so, how did you like how the trip was organized?

The old terminal is VERY crappy. It looks like an old bus station, smells of a bathroom, has cracked walls, and the waiting areas look like emergency shelters after a natural disaster when ppl are waiting for both the Northwest flight to Detroit and the United flight to Tokyo in the same room. But that is kind of what the PRC is like anyway!!! Also, when I was out on the tarmac, people didn't seem to mind when I took pictures. Pilots even waved to me! Too bad about the new international terminal.

Just to make a contribution to the topic, food on AA hasn't been too good in all the year's I've flown it.

Since many of my flights are short, I haven't had too many hot meals. I've only had one truly awful meal, which was on a Mexicana flight...the chicken was smothered in some gooey brown muck. The chicken was almost raw too...I didn't have more than one bite. My salad had a dead fly in it, and the roll was too hard to even chew.

I've had hot meals on Aer Lingus in both coach and Premier. I've had so-so food, and excellent food.

Northwest and United have had decent food. I have been impressed with the trans-con Biz Class service on UA. And, the "A la Carte" breakfast concept on NW is smart.

On Alaska, the sandwiches and salads on the shorter flights have always been fresh and tasty. I've had full hot meals between Seattle and Anchorage, and they've been quite good too. However, AS needs to serve more on their flights to Mexico.

The best meal I have had in economy was on Hawaiian Airlines, it was some kinda teryiaki chicken and rice thing going on but it was excellent, for my second choice it would be Northwest because practically everything they have served me in coach tasted real good, things such as ham & cheese sanwhiches, BBQ sandwiches, pizza, and the a la carte thing is so great (cause you can get way more then just a bowl of cereal) and my third choice would be American Airlines, they served a really good calzone on my DFW-OAK trip, it didnt fill me up but it was real good. As far as First Class goes (I have only flown on Continental and Northwest First) I would say Continental, Northwest first class food usually sucks and is worse then the coach meal. Just my 2 cents.

No, not People to People... just a school tour.

When I said photographers are not allowed in, I meant non-flying photographers. I think it is that way everywhere in China. Unless you are flying that day, you may not go into the terminal.

When did you go into the old international terminal? When I flew NWA DTW-PEK, they were in the brand new terminal.

Northwest's first class breakfast is really good- i like how they give you choices..the other meals up there are ok.... coach has good stuff all around usually. I am never in first class when i i dont know about the other airlines first class. Coach generally seems to be better though (gotta love those bagels and cream cheese) in most airlines because they dont try to do that gourmet crap for us lower class people.
