They are both made by Coca-Cola right? We don't get Mr. Pibb in Detroit, just Dr. Pepper. But I have had Mr. Pib on several different occasions outside of Michigan and I have to say I like Dr. Pepper better. Is Mr. Pibb Dr. Pepper's son or something? HAHA...

Mr Pibb was an unsolved mystery to me too until a few weeks ago. Mr. Pibb is a Coca-Cola product. Dr. Pepper is a product of the Dr. Pepper company. However, Dr Pepper Co. doesn't bottle Dr. Pepper. If you are in a region where Pepsi bottles Dr. P, then you can find Mr. Pibb as a competition to it. If Dr. P is bottled by Coke (like it is here in Philly), then Mr. Pibb is not available. This also explains why Dr. Pepper can sometimes be found in either Coke or Pepsi vending machines. I have seen Pibb in the South, the Rockies, and Canada (not sure about our friends in other countries). However interestingly, I have never seen Pibb in a two liter bottle, like Dr. P., only in cans, 20 oz., and 1 liter bottle.

Thanks so much for clearing that up! That makes a lot of sense.

When I was a kid, and we'd go north (New York) in the summer, I'd ask for Dr. Pepper, and the waitress would say, "We don't have it; we have root bee-ah." As if I cared!

Now, it's available nationwide, and to my utter surprise and delight, in Australia. Civilized place, Australia is.

I've never had a Mr. Pibb. But I think that as Dr. Pepper is my favourite soft drink, no one can beat it.

While Dr. Pepper and Mr. Pibb are virtually undiscernable, I would have to say that Dr. Pepper is my favourite.

Scuttler,

Dr Pepper has had a few launches here in Australia, and never has been that successful. The last campaign was huge and probably very expensive.

I remember the first time I had Dr Pepper about nearly 15 years ago, when my parents took us away to the US for the first time. I thought it was soo exotic I bought cans back with me to take to school and show my friends.

Funny enough I don't drink it here, I am more into mineral waters and the like these days.

I'm pretty much reduced to iced tea and diet soft drinks these days, anyway... but as a kid, Dr. Pepper used to advertise (during winter months) drinking *hot* Dr. Pepper (with a lice of lemon on top). Laugh, if you must, but was actually pretty good, as I recall.

My sister tells me that the Australian launch was done with much fanfare and expense, and she tells me that she thinks it has not been too terribly successful.

Now, if they ever roll out Yoo Hoo in Australia- that I'd have to see!
