QATS3:Does Tech/ops Forum Needs To Be Separate?

Thu Jan 11, 2001 1:59 am

QATS -- Questions About The Site. Read topic "The idea of QATS" to learn more about this project.

That question is here, because I have seen many people, who post topics, that should be in tech/ops, to Civil Aviation only because it is more popular. So I suggest to make one forum -- Civil aviation, not these two. I have posted that because it is hard to load all forums here for people with slow modems, and the small amount of posts in tech/ops wouldn't overload civil aviation. What do you thing about that?

Please don't use offensive language here, just write your opinion.

According to your User Info, you have joined almost a year ago. In that case, you might have been here when those new forums were started: The new forums were started after popular demand because:

- many advanced aviation professionals found the general quality of the site decreasing, as the number of aviation enthusiasts (i.e. people like me who think they know a lot about planes but don't) increased.
-The Civil Aviation Forum was getting increasingly filled with topics not entirely aviation related
Trip Reports:
-Trip Reports were filling up the Forum, but few people were seriously interested.

I think it is good to have this division. It means if you need advice on specialized issues, you know where to go to, and you can be sure you ropit won't be flooded away by trip reports or Airbus vs. Boeing wars or false A380-order-announcement posts.

One thing that is remarkable: The non-aviation forum seems to be the fastest-growing of them all: I just hope it will never over take the general Civil Aviation Forum!

Yes, I know, that trip reports are anoying, Boeing vs. Airbus battles ande false news also. And I don't have anything against "trip reports" forum. False news and B vs. A battles are deleting. The problem of Tech/Ops is not the small amount o professionals. I thing there are many pilots and people, working for airlines or manufactorers in But the problem is, what posts we should post to Tech/Ops forum, and what -- to Civil Aviation. Does reengining, fleets changes must go to Tech/Ops? But 75% of these posts go to Civil Aviation Forum! Also some posts, which should go to Civil Aviation (such a "your most likeful engine combination"), goes to Tech/Ops. So this is my recomendation -- three forums -- I think each should get around the same amount of posts:
1.Accidents and Incidents Forum
2.Aviation Events (such as new fleet, engines, plane...)
3.Questions to users (such anoying things like "which airliner, airline, engine type you like the most", "On which airline, airliner you flown the most times?")
4.There could be "Other Aviation", but possible, that it wouldn't be popular.

What kind of engine you like or what planes you have flown on are part of this forum. Actually these QATS are annoying.....

Actually, the 5000+ members of this forum seem to like it as it is.

If you find so much wrong with it, go away.

By the way we already have a Webmaster, his name is Johann who does an excellent job without your assistance....

I shall answer to 747-451, why I am saying, that topics like "You most likeful engine" and "Your most likeful plane". This is only because these topics are disscused to death. I haven't seen question like that before, so I have asked. If you don't like it, don't write any replies. If Johan will think, that my QATS are anoying, he will delete them, and I won't write topics such as "why you have deleted QATS". Thats all. And please don't use offensive language. If you don't have personal opinion, don't write anything at all.

Sorry if You think, that this my reply was offensive. I am trying to be as polite, as possible.

The Tech/Ops forum was separated because people felt that their techinical questions that relatively few people could answer weren't getting seen, because posts on the Civil Aviation forum often "fall off" the first page after only a couple hours. So unless there is a response pretty quickly, people who know the answer might never see the question. But there might not be a quick response becasue not many people know the answer. And those who do know the answer are likely to be busier (ie they have full time jobs in the industry) thus can't spend all day at Thus they won't see the post right away, and it falls off before they see it...

I did not use any offensive langauge. If you feel there is so much that needs fixing, find another forum. Many here think it is fine the way that it is.
