Airliners.net Up Again After DNS Server Problems

Sun Jan 21, 2001 8:53 am

Hello all,

I am sorry to say that Airliners.net has been down for the last two days. It was caused by a fatal problem at our DNS service provider whose two name servers went down simultaneously. That mean that the machine running Airliners.net has been up all the time but no one has been able to access it as the domain "Airliners.net" didn't point to it. We have changed DNS service provider and as the updated into is spread among Internet name servers, Airliners.net will be accessible to an increasing number of people. In a few hours, everyone everywhere in the world should be able to connect normally.

Again, I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. This was not the start of the year that I hoped for but I'm confident it won't happen again.

Thank you,
Johan Lundgren

Finally, I was going through plane withdrawl. I was starting to get sick of going to Boeing and Airbus.com over and over again!

Glad you're back. I was fixing to have to go into detox 'cause I couldn't get my daily airliners.net "fix".

Thanks for the update, Johan. I was starting to get worried there!

I still can't figure out why I cannot access this site from work for the last two weeks but from home it is fine. I wonder if it is connected to that problem.

For a couple of days I thought you forgot to pay the domain registrar the money to keep the airliners.net domain.  Sad

Good thing it was just a hardware problem!  Smile

Many thanks to Johan for creating such a wonderful site. Glad to see that this has been fixed!!!

In any way has this affected the que of photos to be reviewed and added into Airliners.net?

Johan, I sent in about 25 pictures from HNL on Monday night and this is Saturday night with no responce from your team as to whether they have been reviewed?

Why does it take so long now....?

Do you even have them now?

My luck, you will decline some of them because "The guy doesn't seem to have $5000.00 worth of camera gear and spend all day long doing pictures".

I was driving myself up the wall trying to find a site that was like airliner.net but to no avail. I was really upset that airliners.net was gone but I had thought for good and was about to cry :-(

I'm pretty sure if Johan is going out of business. He will send to all usernames' email to notify you. I bet he has stored all emails. Don't worry he will not going out of business. In case he will notify in website if it's going out within a few days shutdown or email you. I was not too worry about website down for a while. I'm patiently and I'm glad he's back and fixed it. I knew something is wrong server. I'm sure he will not going out of business forever!!

Thank you.

I suppose it was the server at Lullea that failed eh?

Anyway, this is good. I was getting withdrawl symptoms and my time on the internet was gettting boring.

Thank you

Dunno about the rest of you, but I was all these two days confident that the site will be up again eventually and didn't worry too much. Minor probs happened before (as with any major website in the world) and Johan always handled them OK.

As one saying goes, you don't realise full value of something until it's gone!

Long live Airliners.net!  Smile

I cannot access airliners.net from my home account, through an Atlanta high speed provider known as Senets. They seem unwilling to give me any help, and I'm hoping that you will. Please contact them. Their website is www.senets.com.

Ah, I didn't miss it either... I was lucky to be in Washington DC while it was down with no internet access!

I was wondering what was wrong... I was frantically looking for the IP address for airliners.net as that usually works... I'll make sure to keep a note of it now (130.240.192.52).

As just so everybody knows for sure it wasn't the actual airliners.net machine that went down, it was the machines at a company which keeps the airliners.net domain (sort of) and when you type in www.airliners.net the request goes to this machine and then gets the IP number (the series of four numbers separated by dots) which is the actual site. The servers in Lulea didn't fail, they've been up the entire time...

Not that I'm skeptical about anything Johan, but are you still interesting to finding somebody to host a mirror server (just in case these things happen?)
