Ok it appears that most have been answered here are the correct answers for the ones that have been answered:

1. Cape Agulhas (SR3496)
2. Bosporus and Dardanelles (Trvlr)
3. Lake Titicaca (G-KIRAN, Us330)
4. Tie-TN and MO, 8 states each (G Dubya, Ctbarnes)
5. Has not been answered correctly yet.
6. Indonesia (Trvlr, G-KIRAN)
7. Has not been answered correctly yet (This is a variant of a $500,000 question that was on Who wants to be a Millionaire sometime last year)
8. Has not been answered correctly by my answer, however Trvlr's answer is still correct. (Hint: My answer has nothing to do with their geographical location)
9. San Marino, Vatican City, Monaco, Gambia, and Lesotho (Trvlr, G-KIRAN, Ctbarnes, Us330)
10. Colorado or New Mexico (G-KIRAN, Trvlr)-It helps to know that I gave the English translation of the mountains, its name on a map is "Sangre de Cristo Range"

Just 5, 7, and 8 need to be answered, I know you all can do it!!

Can I dispute question 9. Sorry USAFHummer....you know I gotta do it Big grin

I would say that the only countries completely by one country, are Lesotho (South Africa), Vatican City (Italy) and San Marino (Italy). I leave out The Gambia and Monaco, because they are not completely surrounded, as they both have coastlines.

Also no.8...the answer would be Denmark, as Belize, Liberia and Guyana, all have as their form of currency, the $.

5. sorry, I don't know that one.
7. Rub Al-khali (The Empty Quarter)
8. Liberia is unique in that it was a country founded by those who escaped slavery. That's how it got its name.

I just absent-mindedly looked at the map in my room and found that the answer for 1 is Cape Agulhas. I knew Cape of Good Hope was too deceptively easy to be true.

And I found the answer for #7 in my old World Cultures book: Kongur Shan @ 7719m/25325ft

Trvlr,

You mean #5 is Kongur Shan, and that is still incorrect.

The answer is Shisha Pangma, also known as Xixabangma or Gosainthan at 8,012 meters it is just a few miles north of the Nepalese border in Tibet.

Big guess for #8-

Guyana is the only country that does not share it's name with a city. I have heard of...

Denmark, Australia
Belize City, Belize
Liberia, Costa Rica

Where have you heard of Denmark in Australia?

The reason I ask this is that Denmark is my home town (it isn't exactly a city, with only 2,000 people). I was brought up in Denmark, and came to live in Perth just over 10 years ago.

It has got to be one of the most beautiful areas in Aussie. It has beautiful beaches, with wicked salmon fishing when they are running. And it is also right in amongst the karri forests of the South-West.

Was just taken back a bit when you mentioned it.

Cheers

Ok first an update on the elusive number 8.

Globetrotter has finally gotten the answer I had in mind-Denmark is the only country where English is not an official language.

He also got number 7, which is the Rub-al-khali

Now apparently there are some disputes over number 5.

Trvlr-
If you look a very detailed map of the region (theres a good one being sold at Barnes and Noble), it is clear that Shisha Pangma is in Tibet. Granted, not by more than 10 miles, but still in Tibet.

Redngold-
Even though I feel for the Tibetans cause too, as of now they are still a part of China, thus my answer.

Greg

P.S. Another quiz will be posted sometime tonight-mostly history

Looking at a globe now-make that 1 more answer to number 9 (Both do not follow Brissie's rules). There are now 2 possible answers to number 9.

USAFHummer

There are actually more:

Negara Brunei Darussalam
Ireland
Portugal
Denmark (if you don't count water borders, as it is only bound by Germany to the south)
South Korea

That's going on your basis anyway.

Thank you for bringing those to my attention Brissie-I dont count Ireland as it is bordered by Northern Ireland, which is not an independent nation, but a place of unsure political status (now the Brits will hammer me for saying that)
Portugal was the one I was thinking of.

Denmark is now physically connected to Sweden (via the new bridge, not sure of the name) so that doesnt count.
