#%#$!@* Pop-up Ads On This Site!

Wed Jan 31, 2001 10:25 pm

Howdy Johan

What is happening with these damn pop-up ads. As of late I have been getting them all too often on airliners.net.

Now, I have done the right thing by you and turn off my ad-killer whilst on airliners.net but if these damn pop-ups aren't sent to the anals of advertising hell, where they belong, I will be turning the ad-killer software back on.

Each time I get a pop-up on airliners.net, my system freezes, I lose my net connection, and it costs me another 25c for a phone call to reconnect. All because of an ad which I wanted nothing to do with; they get their click, you get your money, and I am outta pocket each time this happens. Not fair at all.

Can you please rectify this situation

Thanks

Scotty

The pop-ups should have been removed, all of them. Could you please tell me the name of the advertiser and the banner link so that I can have it removed. Preferably also the ad network it's on.

Thanks,
Johan

Thomas

That is what i get, but if you leave it, it will connect to the site (more than likely the lottery one I mentioned).

Report it to Johan if it happens again in future

I often get pop-ups for "iwon.com". In fact, I got one for them this morning.

Johan-Here Is The Banner Link

Thu Feb 01, 2001 5:55 am

The URL for the pop-up banner I got just a few minutes ago in the Civil Aviation forum is as follows:
http://www.iwin.com/login/register.....oops, I just closed the window accidentally. I didn't get the rest of the URL. Hope this helps.

I get those pop up ads too. They are followed by a script error. My computer doesn't freeze, but I have to re-enter the site if I am to continue.  Sad I don't know what the advertisements are. The script error takes over and doesn't allow a viewing.

I have never had any popup adds from this site.

Scotty,

Please let me know where you got the ad killer software from.

Cheers,

I got a popup add from this site to a PORNO site... now c'mon, whats up with this? I don't come to a.net to get my jollies.
I agree, get rid of em! Even if it means an additional banner at the bottom of every page...

I don't know if it is pure coincidense, but the ads only arrive when I enter the Non-Aviation forum.

DAMMIT! Now I am pissed...
OK- within about two minutes of each other, "www.pink4free.com" (title bar said "HARDCORE SEX") and "www.crazybytes.com" (apparently another "hardcore" sex site) have popped up.
Whats up with this? Again, A.net is the first site I have visited today.... hmmmm....
Any ideas? (And, no, TWFirst, its not because I'm visiting the porn sites... usually the only sites i visit are this one and hotmail)

Another one came on. I can't display the link because the computer I was using turned off by itself for no apparent reason so I'm using another machine.

CPDC10-30, interesting point you bring up. I NEVER had a pop-up ad come from this site until I switched ISPs (currently Earthlink). But when I dial up to my old ISP (I have three I think), I never get pop-ups. Hmm....

I use Netscape 4.7 w/ 128 bit encryption. If you use it disable loading of graphics; this will only show text. It wont stop the pop ups but it will load the pages very quickly.

I'm pretty sure that this site chooses different advertisments by your IP address. In my dorm at school, I never get any popup windows, at my parent's home I do. I also get Canadian-oriented ads occasionally...which is surprising to say the least. I suspect it is because the site picks up the .ca domain that I am accessing from.

The site needs to be maintained somehow and money is required. Why don't we all stick a post-it note on our monitors saying, e.g.: "Remember to click 5 (or more) banner ads on Airliners.net today". This way we might boost things up a bit...
