XFL Game So Far

Sun Feb 04, 2001 10:30 am

I'm usually not one to jump on pop-culture bandwagons, but I'm giving the XFL a shot. So far (1st qtr) it's not bad. I'm impressed with the radical camerawork. It makes even bad football look cool.

They shouldn't let the athletes open their mouths, though.

I agree. Letting the players talk, is 'cool', as long as they have something half way intelligent to say.

I think that besides the camera work, the XFL is not worth even watching!! I watched enough of it already. Its pathetic.

Your ignorance shows USAirways. After watching 5 minutes of something, you can make an intelligent decision? Yeah, okay.

I'm ignorant because I can find other, better things to do than watch a bunch of NFL wannabes talk about their homies and that they miss their wives? I will agree with you though cheerleaders were nice. I doubt my mom will quit watching what she's watching so I can look at the cheerleaders though. Maybe all the hoopla before the game even started made me expect too much but admit it, its not what you thought it would be.

I admit it. I'm watching the game. I started after watching the "plane" portion of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles on UPN. It's not as different from the NFL as I expected. The camera work is innovative though. FOX should do that for the NFL broadcasts. But I don't really care about any of the teams, so it's just not as fun. I still like college football the best -- especially when my alma mater plays!

I agree with college football being the best, but this is the first game in the first season of a new football league. Before judging, people need to give it some time, so it can generate intrest. Its not trying to replace the NFL, its just continuing football. As for the players being wannabes, I highly doubt it. Look at Kurt Warner. He languished in the Arena football league, and the World league before getting his break. If no for other football leagues, players would lose that chance to possibly make the NFL. Are Triple A baseball players wannabe Major Leaguers?

Yes they are, why do you think they play in the AAA? So that the MLB will notice them and hopefully draft them.

I bet the next game will be better though. They will learn of some of their mistakes and what brought the game down and hopefully make it better. I'll be watching the next game and see if they've made it any better.

I watched the NY/NJ Hitmen play the Las Vegas Outlaws on Saturday Night. I thought it was really awesome and fun to watch.

Orlando Rage is my team so I'm gonna catch a few of their games this year.

ehh, no USAirways737, a MLB team DRAFTS them, THEN they go into the farm system (Class A, AA, AAA, International Leagues, etc) and they work their way up the ladder and hopefully they get called up to play in the MLB. Some players spend their entire lives in the minor leagues (watch the movie Bull Durham). I watched most of the NY/NJ Hitmen vs. Las Vegas Outlaws game. Nothing extraordinary, I was hoping for some big hits on punts but the players just ran by the punt returner and waited till after he caught the ball and then softly tackled him. They could have just ran right into him right as he was catching the ball (no fair catches in XFL). It was good entertainment though.
